Yes, LinkedList is a doubly linked list, as the Javadoc mentions :

Doubly-linked list implementation of the List and Deque interfaces. Implements all optional list operations, and permits all elements (including null).

All of the operations perform as could be expected for a doubly-linked list. Operations that index into the list will traverse the list from the beginning or the end, whichever is closer to the specified index.

Introduction to Doubly Linked Lists in Java - GeeksforGeeks
April 25, 2023 - To create a doubly linked list, first, we need to define a Node class that has three data members that will store the data stored in the node, the reference to the next node, and the reference to the previous node.

Help with Doubly Linked List
That's how you could instantiate one, if you have a class named DoublyLinkedList. DoublyLinkedList isn't a part of the standard library and if you've been tasked with "implementing a doubly linked list" then you would have to create that class yourself. There are plenty of resources online regarding doubly linked lists, simply googling "doubly linked list" will turn up plenty of decent results and would be a good place to start. If you have any specific questions regarding implementing a doubly linked list, feel free to ask them here. More on reddit.com

Queues and linked lists
Under the hood they are all pretty much the same. The difference is how the elements are accessed. Common to all these data structures is that they consist of nodes. Each node holds some payload (data), and each node has one or two (depending on the structure) links to adjacent nodes. One very important thing to understand is the above - the node. It will be used not only in the structures below, but also in other structures, like trees, graphs, etc. Once you have understood how a node and consecutively a linked list (singly or doubly doesn't matter) works, you will find all the other structures fairly easy. Linked List - that is the base for the others it can be singly linked - traversal is only possible in forward direction (head -> tail) it can be doubly linked - traversal is possible in both directions (head -> tail and tail -> head) inserting at head is O(1), inserting at tail can be O(1) with a dedicated tail node, inserting in between is O(n) searching is at most O(n) insertion order is preserved Queue - is a FIFO (First in/First out) data structure - first inserted element is the first to be out of the queue again. think of a queue as of the queue in a bank - or think of it as a piece of pipe through which marbles roll Elements are generally added to the head and pulled from the tail queues can (and quite commonly) have a fixed maximal length queues are often implemented as linked lists (can also be implemented via arrays) queues are often used as "buffer" data structures where elements are temporarily stored and retrieved in the same order as inserted Stack - is a LIFO (Last in/First out) data structure - elements are inserted at the head and retrieved from the head think of a stack as the common "nail" recipe holder - you put elements on the nail, the next after, and so on. Then, you pull them from the top of the nail again stacks are commonly used when you want to reverse things stacks are commonly used in Reverse Polish Notation they are commonly implemented with linked lists (but also can be implemented with arrays) So, summarizing: linked lists are the base queues and stacks are pretty much similar only that a queue preserves the insertion order (FIFO) and a stack reverses it (LIFO) More on reddit.com

I can't make the double linked list my assignment is requesting, is this a bad sign for me as a programmer?
Jesus mate. You don't need to question your ambitions just because you're stuck on an assignment your peers seem to pass. Ask for some damn help. Learning by yourself can only get you so far. If I'm stuck, I re-read the assignment, make sure to create a solid foundation and solve exactly as stated in the assignment. Last resort you can try reading and understanding what the junit tests do. Most of all, get some damn sleep More on reddit.com

Linked List problems : need help to develop an understanding
Following questions would help. Did you study Comp Organization, Architecture ? A machine memory model? Those are necessary to understand the physical reality of LinkedList. Essentially memory and Pointers. This book here talks about Linked List in absolute details. https://theswissbay.ch/pdf/Gentoomen%20Library/Algorithms/Algorithms%20in%20C.pdf#page=32 The 2nd OG book. The first OG book would be Knuth, and here it is describing LinkedList. www.haio.ir/app/uploads/2022/01/The-Art-of-Computer-Programming-Vol.-1-Fundamental-Algorithms-3rd-Edition-by-Donald-E.-Knuth-z-lib.org_.pdf#page=254 Incidentally Sidgewick got his PHD from Donald Knuth. Thanks for the help.

Please ensure that: Your code is properly formatted as code block - see the sidebar (About on mobile) for instructions You include any and all error messages in full You ask clear questions You demonstrate effort in solving your question/problem - plain posting your assignments is forbidden (and such posts will be removed) as is asking for or giving solutions. Trying to solve problems on your own is a very important skill. Also, see Learn to help yourself in the sidebar If any of the above points is not met, your post can and will be removed without further warning. Code is to be formatted as code block (old reddit: empty line before the code, each code line indented by 4 spaces, new reddit: https://i.imgur.com/EJ7tqek.png ) or linked via an external code hoster, like pastebin.com, github gist, github, bitbucket, gitlab, etc. Please, do not use triple backticks (```) as they will only render properly on new reddit, not on old reddit. Code blocks look like this: public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello World!"); } } You do not need to repost unless your post has been removed by a moderator. Just use the edit function of reddit to make sure your post complies with the above. If your post has remained in violation of these rules for a prolonged period of time (at least an hour), a moderator may remove it at their discretion.
