I have used a basic Dremmel drill bit set ranging from 1/32" - 1/8" for making holes in jewelry tags made out of aluminum, with no problems. When I tried a sterling silver one though, it just heated up and only made a dent, so I stopped and thought I might ask about it so I don't mess it up. I also want to be able to do stainless steel and 14k gold or 10k gold tags...any ideas about bits I can use? I've gone to Amazon as well as the dremmel store and can't seem to find anything for holes besides the bits I already have. Thanks

I am trying grind this dental spatula blade into a taper. I was wondering if anyone knows which kind of dremel attachments will work. Any advice is appreciated. The tool is a dental spatula #24a thanks in advance.

You're looking for tungsten carbide bits. You can get a hobby kit on Amazon for like 20 bucks. Just search for "Tungsten carbide Dremel bits" You may be able to find some at a store like Ace Hardware or Home Depot as well if you can't wait. The default stuff that comes with your Dremel isn't going to cut it though (literally). These should work fine as long as you're not doing a lot of milling, should be OK for rounding edges, engravings, and drilling holes.

I can't give you any advice on what to use other than regular abrasives should do the job. For stainless make sure the tools you use (or at least the parts in contact with the material) have not been previously used on regular steel. Doing so causes regular steel to embed into the stainless steel which can initiate rusting.
