I heard recently that you can use your own box for Fedex One rate? What has been peoples experience with this? There is a chart somewhere out there that showed cubic inches and then what size it corresponded to. What was interesting is it looked like by using your own box you save money, or can use a larger box than the express boxes...

yeah i just asked fedex directly and they said “Appreciate your patience. I understand that you would like to know if you can use your own box. I have checked and it shows that FedEx One Rate requires you to use FedEx Express packaging. This means you can’t use your own box for FedEx One Rate shipments. However, you can use your own packaging for other FedEx services, as long as the boxes are sturdy, undamaged, and all flaps are intact.”

Boxes are made of cardboard the can and do deform during shipping. This sounds like a recipe for adjustments.

The fedex website says $40 for an extra large “flat rate box”. The fedex website also has a section for estimates and it says $80 for express saver what the hell? There arent any other options $80 is the cheapest, wheres the flat rate here?

It starts at $30.95 for the XL. If it was 0-150 miles and the express saver service, that's the cost. The website is very clear on the brackets.

If you are rate shopping on the home page, after you put the origin and destination in, select FedEx extra large box, and then put the weight in and click "show rates", right below where you put the weight in, it shows the ship date. Then right below that it clearly "FedEx Retail Rates" and "FedEx One Rate". Click on "FedEx One Rate". Cryptic, I know.
