Does the FiiO Control app have to be active for the equalizer setting to affect the sound of the UTWS5, or is the EQ setting stored and used regardless if the app is on or off?

To be clear, I have established a setting (User 1). Does the Fiio Control app have to be on for that EQ setting to be applied, or is it stored in the UTWS5 itself?

If it isn't stored on board the UTWS5 itself, if the Fiio Control app is off, what setting is used, or must the app be active for any EQ to be applied?

Good question no idea. I did not find the app that useful on my fiio k9 pro ess. I eq all my music using Sony Music Center it has about 20 presets for all music genres. The problem is not everyone can use software you must connect it to a walkman at least once to activate. But its great at managing all HR music, I currently have 580 albums, you can search by song,artist,album, create Playlist and change descriptions. Load the fii0 control app on computer with streaming software and chang speaker output to Fiio. So what you might want to look into is some music management software, makes streaming music much easier on fiio dac/amps.

I haven’t used my utws5 lately, but what you set in the app stays if I remember right. Settings like gain, mic volume, all that is set it and forget it. But one way to test it is to set your eq, close the app, and reopen. If the eq has gone back to factory then it would have to be set each time. I doubt that tho.

I built an app to help build EQ presets on the Fiio M21.

I found using the native EQ app on the Fiio M21 to be confusing, so I wanted to make it easier. This webapp has several presets for various musical genres based on audio science research and audiophile consensus data.

HOW TO USE: (1) Dial in the preset you want on the webapp, (2) replicate the displayed EQ settings on the Fiio EQ app on your actual DAP, or other EQ app, (3) fine tune to your liking and save to your DAP.

Feel free to use the code if you want to improve on it or build your own app. I'm always receptive to any input you may have for making this better!

M11 is running android OS. You can use the Peq on neutron player probably.

Indeed that's why I installed the Onkyo HF Player for Android to really get controlled of the EQ thr difference was night and day compared to the shit stock fiio. https://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/applications/hf_player_android.html The only thing is that I still havent figure out how to sync playlists with onkyo so I still use the fiio app when I want to plug it and forget. The coolest things about the onkyo is that you can download EQ profiles created by other users and artists that work on evey song. I love one call the Huckleberry Fuzz
