I was never so happy as to remove the tile from my kitchen - I do think it can look and work great for many, but our situation was cheap builder grade ceramic tile over a semi-heated basement in Maine. It was hard and cold half the year, had grout that was impossible to clean, and every time I dropped something, they’d crack. Totally miserable. In a temperate climate, or maybe on slab with radiant heat, I bet it would be great! but replacing that with hardwood that matches the rest of our house was a huge leap in comfort and looks. We bought our house new on 2005. Put tile in the kitchen in 2007. We have exactly one tiny chip that happened within the first months. We are fixing to gut our kitchen-except for the tile- and remodel. And we had a water leak from the kitchen to the living room/closet/ bathroom behind the refrigerator. It was a slow leak. The tile was fine. Every other floor downstairs had to be removed. I’m a huge fan of tile for its durability. More on reddit.com

We have hardwood everywhere but bathrooms. What flooring do you have in the adjoining spaces? With the exception of carpeting, I’d use whatever that is. Get an extra box if you’re concerned about “what ifs”. More on reddit.com

Why am I not seeing tile in kitchen remodels? Seems like it’s the option that lasts the longest.
For those of you that recommend tiles, what styles would you recommend?

I’m completely renovating the kitchen of a house I just purchased. Love the look of terracotta tile flooring but not sure if about the functionality since tile has no give if something drops on it. Any thoughts on tile kitchen floors in general or other options that look similar to the look i want ?

Tile lasts forever and to be honest the luxury vinyl plank flooring is so overdone and feels cheap in my opinion.
