How come not a lot more people move to Texas or Florida, where there is no state income tax, saving them thousands and thousands per year?
I'd rather live somewhere where they can keep the power going, and they aren't banning books. More on reddit.com

What is the big deal with Florida? Why is it such a popular destination and place to live?

Florida has a tax structure that’s very favorable to retirees - no income tax and often relatively low property taxes with often economical property values, so their money can go further. They manage this in part because the state derives a lot of income from tourism.

The state also has worked to create a lot of retirement communities - basically giant HOAs with minimum age requirements that market heavily to seniors. They’ve been doing this for a while - 20+ years at a minimum.

Then once they have these areas set up they end up with a lot of services that cater to retirees, and then the friends and family of those retirees retire there and the services for them expand.

Understanding Florida’s Property Tax System
3 weeks ago - Protections like the “Save Our Homes” amendment, that shield the primary residences of full-time Floridians from excessive property tax increases caused by rising property values, help families keep up, even when the market heats up. If the goal is to make Florida more affordable, the focus should be on what’s actually driving costs higher: rising insurance premiums—not the basic services that communities rely on every day.

At this point, capital gains — or the income generated by an intangible asset’s rise in value over time — are taxed, though at a lower rate than wages and salaries. Furthermore, since Florida does not have a personal income tax, the state has no way of collecting capital gains beyond the intangible property tax.
