On a side note most areas along the finger lakes that have shall beds by the shore contain fossils due to how the finger lakes were made. that being big glaciers scraping through New York and melting filled with frozen ocean life. We would be fossil hunting for Eurypterids, Triarthus Trilobites, and the large and elusive Dipleura trilobites. The first day included a grand tour of central NY by Larry. I don't know where you are on long island, but Big Brook in NJ is only like an hour from NYC, and has tons of cool stuff to find.
