Seneca lake along the shore line. In Willard NY (the town with the prison in it, next to Ovid) , you can drive though town and it will take you to a nature walk (has parking) walk down the path and there will be smaller paths that take you lakefront. Walk along the shore and about 2-3 feet in the lake. On a side note most areas along the finger lakes that have shall beds by the shore contain fossils due to how the finger lakes were made. that being big glaciers scraping through New York and melting filled with frozen ocean life. November 17, 2025 - The terrestrial Ordovician rocks of New York record the process of a coastal plain encroaching westward into an inland sea from a chain of mountains rising along the easternmost edge of North America. Local sea levels had dropped by the ensuing Silurian period. As the sea level lowered the waters covering the western part of the state became shallower and the salt more highly concentrated. Rocks deposited during the Devonian Period are the best exposed fossil-bearing deposits in the state.
