r/framer on Reddit: Help with custom domains
March 8, 2024 -
Hello, I am trying to build a portofolio website for a company that does not have a custom domain. If I buy the mini plan, will it provide me a custom link out of the box (myapp.com) or will I need to get this domain from a registrar and then add this link to framer? TL;DR: Do I need to register a domain to host my framer website or does framer does it when I select the url for my app?

When you purchase the mini plan, Framer does not provide a custom domain out of the box. You will need to register a domain with a registrar and then connect it to your Framer project. By default, when you publish your project, you will be provided with a framer.app domain. If you want to use a custom domain like yourdomain.com, you would need to follow these steps: Make sure you have added an active plan to your project (Site Settings → Plans) In your Framer project go to Site Settings → Domains Under 'Custom Domain' select 'Connect a domain you own' Fill in your domain name (e.g. www.yourdomain.com ) Framer provides you with the DNS records that you need to add to your domain in the portal of your domain provider Log in to your domain providers portal (e.g. GoDaddy, Google Domains) and go to the DNS settings Add the DNS Records that are shown in your Framer project's Site Settings Check the connection status in the Domain Settings of your Framer project. It should say connected. Please note that this can take up to 48 hours, depending on how fast the registrar of your Domain Provider is. If it says 'Connected' you can re-publish your project and go to your domain in the browser to see if it works as expected So, to answer your question, yes, you will need to register a domain to host your Framer website. Framer does not register the domain for you, but it does provide the necessary DNS records to connect your domain to your Framer project.

I'm curious about the pricing. If I want to build a simple landing page for a client with an existing domain (and large website), can I just use the "basic or personal"? I only need Framer for the specific landing page, not the entire site, which is hosted by separate service.
