Okay. You're looking for Top-Grain, Full Grain Leather. You do not want split grain or bonded. Top-Grain is literally the top of the skin of the animal. Split grain is the middle and bonded is where they take the scraps, shred it and glue it in to a sheet, essentially. Look for Aniline Dyed leathers. You'll have to choose if you want natural or corrected leathers. Also, protected or unprotected. Natural is like, do you want to see scars and such on the leather or do you want it corrected, smooth, no scars? You can get an uprotected leather that will age/patina over time. Protected basically have a wax finish over them and should not patina. Clean the leather every 6 months - with a good leather cleaner. As for recliners - $1800 is a decent price point. You can spend as much as you want - check out Hancock and Moore - you'd pay probably $2500-3000 for a recliner but they're awesome. The mechanism will likely be made by Leggett and Platt - it should have a lifetime warranty. The more you can customize a chair the more likely it will be made in the US. If leather, I would not get bonded leather. Bonded leather looks great, feels great, smells great, is less expensive than full leather, but will eventually begin to peal and flake bits of leather off looking like your recliner has leprosy.
