Google is heavily over staffed in the USA most of my friends say they have no work at all in office. They play some games eat nice lunch then some snacks and go home. I wish I can join such teams at google where it’s just full day timepass

I have been seeing the cs subs here and discord servers constantly flooded by interview and team match posts for Google L3 and L4 levels since April this year. But I have also been seeing posts about many orgs there offering voluntary exits and planning layoffs on Blind. Why are they hiring so much and firing at the same time?

Replace old (who are considered young anywhere else in the industry so ageism) who are expensive with share prices having climbed a lot with new cheap new grads (and internal promo means bottom of payband). I would give advice of: save as much as you can if you are fortunate enough to become a new grad at Google. Though this advice goes for basically any job overall. Save when times are good and especially so in this field as no one has a clue what can happen to you at any moment.

It’s hard to confidently say they’re hiring more if they’re interviewing more. There are a multitude of factors that can lead to more interviews, for example a change in hiring strategy. Similarly, seeing VEP and layoff rumours on Blind does not say much about layoffs. The ones we’ve been seeing on the news have been relatively small. When the market is rough people are bound to doom regardless of what is actually happening.

CS jobs are extremely unstable. Nowadays any time that companies struggle a bit CEOs make the decision to lay developers off. How can somebody make a career out of this? The older you are, the harder it becomes to jump back on track after these events. Either you save up money like crazy and retire early living from your investments or you are screwed.
