I have this one for my daughter and it’s a great seat. It fits in most cars and works both forward facing and rear facing (and booster I think?). Technically, no, you wouldn’t need an infant car seat on top of that one but infant car seats have their perks of being easy to take in and out of the car, fits on strollers, etc, which is extremely useful when your little one is young. No convertible seats have bases and aren’t meant to be installed/uninstalled across cars. Every time you take it out to put into the other you have to make sure it’s installed correctly, which is a PITA. I fully understand the extra expense (especially with twins) but it’s fully worth it to have seats dedicated to every car they’ll be in. With that out of the way, the 4ever DXL is so heavy and bulky. Also booster seats are super cheap once you get to that stage, so having the 4 way convertible is not worth the extra cost of the seat. 3 in one is just fine! We have the slim fit3  LX for my toddler and that’s a lot lighter, and smaller profile. Weight doesn’t matter too much unless you plan to travel with it on an airplane though. I plan on getting the extend to fit for my son (he’s a big chunky boy and I want to rear face as long as possible! And the rotating seat for my tiny little lady. No worries about her maxing the weight before she turns 4! Graco products are fantastic. I own so many between 3 kids that they really should sponsor me. You name it, I probably own it.
