You do have to have a timed slot, and tickets must be bought in advance. We had a 3.30 pm entrance but the crowds were relatively light and a broadcast was made that if you were ready you could go in. We spent almost 3 hours there. As others have said once you get through the small holding area, then into the cinema you are taken through to the main hall where you are guided. Sadly you don't spend as long here as you might like, then once through the Great hall you are free to wander. There is the green screen where you can ride a broom stick or travel in the flying ford. Kiddies can try using a wand, and the guides dotted around the area are a wealth of knowledge if you have a question. I used the audio guide as it gives you added extra information. Be aware though, prices are on the high side so if you have children get used to saying no. Hope you enjoy it, it was worth it in my opinion. Answer from exhaustedFareham on tripadvisor.com

May 26, 2024 - The Harry Potter Studio Tour is actually just outside of London’s city center, which means you’re going to have to plan how you get there. You can get to the studio by train, bus, or car. My preferred method is obviously the train since I don’t typically rent cars when I’m staying in a city.

Have been twice and both times spent 5 hours plus :-D absolutely no pressure once you're through the main hall (even that isn't pressured really) so maybe try and book earlier in the day so you have plenty of time to enjoy!

March 18, 2025 - It might surprise you, but the average visit to the Harry Potter Studio Tour lasts 4 hours. I totally didn’t think we’d spend that long, but in the end, we spent longer! There is a lot to see. The time really flies by too, because you are totally over-stimulated with all the props, costumes ...

Myself and my partner spent about 1 and a half hours walking around the studios on the tour. However I would have taken a lot longer if I was with another potter fan! I walked quite quickly through everything and that lasted about 90 mins. I think you could easily spend 3 hours there. I went on the last slot of the day (630pm) and since it was dark outside and cold since it was November I didn't spent too long outside with the Night Bus and Privet drive and the ButterBeer Bar. If it was lighter and warmer i probably would have spent longer there. I hope this helps! Have an amazing trip!

I am a big Harry Potter fan, and went with my son, who is very interested in prop making and special effects . We spent 7 hours there, stopping for lunch in the outside open area in the middle of the tour. We read all the signs, watched all the videos, browsed in the gift shop, and even watched some other people have a ride on the "broomsticks." I sure most people take a lot less time, but given the price, why go if you are not going to spend at least 3 hours?
