Not sure why they dropped the old variable speed but not really an important feature to me. Also don't care much about a work light since I have plenty if I turn them all on in the garage. There wasn't a lot of info out about this one but what I saw was promising. Haven't really used it yet but it seems really nice. 2.5 seconds to full rpm by my very unscientific measurement. Little to no vibration. I think I'll be quite pleased with it.

They dropped that one down to a Bauer. This one is supposed to be a simple, overpowered, reliable workhorse. No frills.

From other posts from this sub, yt and personal experience the potentiometer was failing, causing the motor to spin well beyond max rpm. I think red the tool bear talked about it as well. I think HF can't have their top tool brand fail hard so they resprayed dropped it down one tier and that was that.
