What is the easiest way to convert between binary, hex, and decimal on paper?
Converting between binary and hex is super easy and can be done by just processing 4 bits at a time (4 binary digits = 1 hexadecimal digit). Converting to/from base 10 is a bunch of annoying math. No easy way around it. It'll be useful if you memorize the powers of 2. More on reddit.com

It's actually pretty easy. I do it in my head by going hex->decimal->binary. For digits 0-9, hex and decimal are the same. After that, you have A = 10 B = 11 C = 12 D = 13 E = 14 F = 15 . Counting in binary is also easy. Four digit numbers are in the format 23 22 21 20 (8's 4's 2's 1's) 0 = 0000 1 = 0001 2 = 0010 3 = 0011 4 = 0100 etc. So let's take your example, converting every digit to binary. 0 0 is pretty easy...0000 0000. C 0 is 12 0 in decimal, which is 1100 0000 in binary. 9 F is 9 15 in decimal, which is 1001 1111 in binary. A 0 is 10 0 in decimal, which is 1010 0000 in binary. 9 7 is 9 7 in decimal, which is 1001 0111 in binary. More on reddit.com

People also ask

Is hexadecimal to binary conversion easier than decimal to binary?
Yes, hexadecimal to binary conversion is easier than decimal to binary because each hex digit directly maps to 4 binary bits. Unlike decimal to binary conversion, which requires repeated division by 2, hexadecimal conversion only requires digit replacement using the hex-to-binary table.
