i’ve been seeing people say glinda is THE real villain of the story but her sister was so useless. like girl your sister is being shamed and everything atleast help her OUT?…
i haven't seen the musical but im a big fan of the wicked movie as well as wizard of oz and oz the great and powerful. hopefully someone on here can answer my questions about her!
firstly, does nessarose ever wear her classic witch outfit from the tornado scene in wizard of oz? im hoping for the movie, she wears a pointed hat and a red themed outfit as thats how she was described! i really want to see her outfit in color since we briefly see the wicked witch of the east in black and white before she is killed off. however, i havent found any pictures of her in the musical wearing anything like that, even though she is supposed to die wearing a witch outfit, a pointed hat, and riding a broomstick. (also, how does she get her own broomstick? did elphaba make her one or something?)
im hoping she isnt killed off as just the "governess of the munchkins" or whatever she's supposed to be, and instead as the wicked witch herself. i think for nessarose it makes more sense for her to be actually evil and she should be killed as a wicked witch and not some innocent governess. has she turned evil by the point she dies in the musical?
also, im curious about how they will get her to be able to stand if they actually cast a disabled actress to play her? they better keep the fact that she is able to stand since the wicked witch of the east is able to pedal on a bike (so she can stand as well). i don't really care about the "fixing disabilities" part since for some reason, the wicked musical writers decided to make a non-disabled character disabled, which makes a plot hole for the wizard of oz movie.
if anyone has any answers, please let me know! im curious about how the wicked witch of the east will turn out for wicked part 2!

Granted Wicked is all about the complexities and how not everything is black or white, but i'm sorry Nessarose is pure evil. She's worse than Morrible and the Wizard for sure, those 2 didn't have any reason to treat Elphaba well, Nessa did. Elphaba is a very supporting sister to Nessa, she doesn't coddle her, she treats her as a human being and seeks to understand her and how she feels, unlike their daddy. Elphaba also protected Nessa as a child from other children yet how Nessa repays her older sister? Blaming her for everything wrong in her life, pretty much blaming Elphaba for being born with functioning legs (like somehow Elphaba wasn't bullied and condemned over her green skincolor).
For as much as people try hate on and call Glinda the villain, she's an actual compelling character and has a lot more redeeming qualities than Nessa. Glinda's arc is that she's someone who's been pampered her whole life and that she finds herself not being able to have everything she wants for the first time. While Glinda's patriarchal patty ways paint her as unsympathetic in a few moments, her redeeming qualities are always there and there is enough details for us to understand why she choses to stay behind and not rebel like Elphaba, Glinda is about about being Pop-u-lar, she's all about keeping appearances, being in the good graces of people. And most of all Glinda is a mirror to us like Elphaba is, she's the other side of the coin, Elphaba represents the fighter side in us that rebels and suffers the consequences, Glinda represents how we choose not to act out of playing safe and keeping appearances. I feel this is why Glinda is mostly a beloved character, the fans don't judge her harshly because she's also a mirror to us, we all like to think of ourselves as Elphaba, but in fact we're more like Glinda than we would like to admit.
Now back to Nessarose, she's not at all understandable. Her motivations are weak, she hates on her own sister pretty much because Elphaba is not disabled like her, she can't empathize with Elphaba even tho Elphaba got it worse than her. Nessarose is seen with pity, Elphaba is looked down upon and her skin color is a significant factor in her being othered and condemned no matter what she does. Nessarose represents the worst side of humanity, she represents someone who's othered who feels good about herself by opressing and being a douche to others who are equally, if not more, opressed than her. She's the representation of a very famous phrase in my country by educator Paulo Freire "when the education is not liberating, the dream of the opressed is to become the opressor".
I really like the movie actress, Marisa Bode, and what she did for the character. But i was listening to interviews and she was acting like Nessa was good representation for disabled people, i'm sorry, no disabled person would like to be represented by her. Nessa is tho a necessary representation as it showcases that you can be disabled and be a douchebag, she's just not the inspirational type of disabled character.
I’ve read in a few areas that Madame Morrible had involuntarily killed Nessa through the creation of the cyclone. Is it implied somewhere that the house falling in Munchkin land would just cause Elphaba to go and check on Nessa? Or was the intent to kill her in order to lure Elphaba out of hiding? My interpretation from the musical was her intent was murder. Thoughts?
They seem to be setting up Nessarose to be much less wicked than she is in the novel and musical. Is this just because they’ve been advertising part one and not part two or are they softening her portrayal?
I was thinking recently just how heavily Glinda’s actions impacted Nessa and ultimately lead to her demise. Glinda used Nessa’s disability to guilt Boq into asking Nessa to the dance. She saw her as a pitiful and vulnerable victim and sent Boq after her. This lead Nessa to become completely infatuated with Boq and believing he loved her. Even as Glinda grew warmer and became closer with Nessa she never revealed the truth. Nessa became so insecure that she evolved into the label of ‘Wicked Witch of the East’. Then, after Glinda discovers the truth of Elphaba and Fiyero, she uses Nessa as yet another tool to get revenge in suggesting a rumor about Nessa being in danger to lure Elphaba out of hiding. This of course indirectly leads to Nessa’s death. Throughout the musical Glinda only viewed her as a poor disabled girl that she took advantage of time and time again…ruining Nessa’s life. The treatment of Nessa is some of Glinda’s darkest moments.
Like, with the hate she gets you would expect it to be because of act 2, all she does in act 1 is be a bad sister to Elphaba, and I feel like people need to understand that she is the way she is because of their father, she IS spoiled, she IS ashamed of Elphaba, and I would bet their father also made Nessa believe that she is wheelchair-bound because of her, just like he made Elphaba believe it is her fault. All of it to say I'm scared for Marissa Bode after For Good releases, some people have a hard time separating fiction from reality
