r/learnpython on Reddit: How do I "compile" my python files into a single executable app
June 23, 2023 -

Hi guys

So I have written a testing "app" and it essentially has a file structure like the following

main.py /utils |---validator.py |---transformer.py |---database_handler.py

I would like to play around more and make a "compiled" executable app. Sorry if my vocabulary isnt correct here.

Essentially I want to be able to create 1 executable that I can run my main.py, and be able to distribute the single executable file to a friend and they can also run it, without having to send the above py files as well.

Is this possible? Sorry I am newish so I'm struggling to find the correct words and implementations

Answer (1 of 38): It depends. It depends on what you mean by “compile”, first. Since Python code runs in a VM, all python code is compiled into instructions for that VM. You can even see that compiled code in “.pyc” files. But usually people when they say “compile” they mean “compiled ...
