Hi, I had a WH-1000XM4 but returned it since it could not connect to my Samsung TV. Given this, how likely will I have the same issue if buying the WF-1000XM4?

Hey there,
so yesterday I was shocked that I wasn't able to connect my XM4 headphone to my Samsung TV anymore. I searched the internet for a solution and found out, that I am not the only one facing the same issue:
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/QLED-and-The-Frame/Samsung-TV-Q70A-Bluetooth-pairing-crash-with-sony-headset-wh/td-p/2459888
Factory reset of both devices didn't work and changing settings on the Sony mobile app had no effect. My Sony app setting is priorizing a stable connection instead of sound quality, but that didn't help. There was nothing I could do to make my XM4 working on my Samsung TV.
So I tried something that noone would probably normally to. I paired my old EP650 bluetooth headphone with my TV and while being connected to it I connected my XM4 to my TV, accepting the notification message that popped up, that says the bluetooth device is going to change. After this direct switch from my old headphones to the XM4 the problem was gone.
Shutdown my XM4 reconnected again > no crash while pairing Shutdown my TV and reconnected my XM4 > no crash while pairing
I hope this solution will work for other people too.
EDIT:
Here is a better solution OkSam pointed out here in the comments (disable hfp support for bluetooth):
-
Download Samsung remote app from your app store
-
connect your smartphone and tv into the same wlan
-
enter mute 1 + 1 + 9 to enter the service menu
-
enter 1+2+3+4 to get into the submenu
-
FMS > MRT Option > set com.samsung/featureconf/bluetooth.hfp_support to false
-
Enjoy
So my dad has been using the Sony CH720N headphones on the tv in his room for well over a year already and it had no problemen, until now.
TV: Samsung QE55Q74TAL
I go into setting > audio > bluetooth speaker > And see that the headset is paired > Try connecting > it connects for half a second and then immediately goes back to the tv speakers.
I removed them and re-paired them, has audio for a full second and then goes back to tv speakers.
Test the CH720N on my phone, works without problems.
Test my Sony WH-1000XM4 on dads tv, also work with no problem.
Updated the firmware of the CH720N to the the latest (1.0.8) > did not help.
Checked the tv for updates but is up-to-date, use the built in diagnostics tool but no problems show up.
Do a full reset of the tv > Did not help.
Tried the following workarounds found on Samsung forum.
Method 1:
Hold the power button of the TV remote so it close and also restart while still pressing the button
Pair the headset right away
Open Netflix after
I was able to pair it 3 times yet this way.
Method 2:
Go to setting > General > Accessibility > multi audio output
Click on Multi-output Audio if nothing is appearing
Select you bluetooth device then click connect
Audio work in the bluetooth device
Both methods did not work.
So I am all out of ideas at this point, both devices seem to work perfectly with other devices but all of a sudden refuse to work with each other.
Despite having worked flawlessly for well over a year with each other before.
Is this a Sony headphones thing or is there some BS going on with Samsung and their Bluetooth?
Would really appreciate some help and insight.
UPDATE:
So I approached Samsung about this problem through whatsapp and they send me a link to this very reddit post asking me if I had already done all of the steps described in the post. I explained the post is mine so yes.
Managed to set an appointment with techsupport who would call me so they can take a look into the tv through remote acces.
First of all the guy was very hard to understand because the mic was so loud and crappy quality. So we were discussing the problem and said he couldn't see anything wrong and confirmed with me that other bluetooth devices do work, then he said he will reset the bluetooth module of the tv.
After I asked him if it was possible that an update broke something, he turned into a bit of a jerk saying that literlally every customer says that and that it is just not possible for something to break from an update because it doesn't work like a computer.
After doing what they needed to do on the tv, he explained that I should take the power off the tv for 30 min after the tv shuts off and then try again to see if the headset wants to connect. He then added if it still won't work then the problem is with the headset and not the tv.
Since he was being so short with me, I did not even get the chance to explain that the headset also works with everything else, even other samsung tv's except this one and that the only thing that has chanced was the update on the tv.
So after the call I pulled out the power plug of the tv and left it alone for 30+ min. And guess what? Still doesn't work!
Not only that, it seems to me that they just did a factory reset because I have to set up everything again. I say again because I already did a factory reset myself.
Now maybe they did do something bluetooth related besides a basic factory reset and maybe it is a problem with a headset, who know?
What I do know however is that that guy was a jerk and I would give samsung support a low grade for it.
Another small update:
Bought new headphones (Bose quietcomfort 45) these pair, connect and do work. However, when you turn the tv or the headphones off and then automatically reconnect them when you turn both of them back on, the sound quality just goes down the drain. I either need to go into the settings and disolve the pairing and then reconnect them. Which gets very annoying as you can imagine.
Faster method is to do a soft reset of the tv by holding the power button on your remote when the tv is on, the tv will turn off and then you will see the QLED logo and turn back on again. When you turn on the headphones after that and connect them they will sound fine, still annoying but not as annoying as going through the settings.
This once again has convinced me that the bluetooth on this stupid Samsung tv is fucked, or by sheer unbelievable coincidence I have bought 2 of the few headphones that have problems with this thing.
