r/graphic_design on Reddit: How do I create a portfolio as a student? Dive by project or category?
January 30, 2024 -

I'm currently in my final year of studies and actively seeking job opportunities. Many positions require a portfolio submission, so I've been working on mine. However, I'm facing a bit of a dilemma.

My portfolio consists mainly of small projects, often done for friends, family, or school. These projects typically involve creating one or two items, such as flyers, social media posts, a logo, etc. Unlike the portfolio examples I've seen online, which are often organized by project or brand, I'm considering organizing mine by the type of work.

On one hand, dividing it by project would provide a clear overview of instances where I did create multiple items for a single project. On the other hand, organizing it by type would eliminate the issue of having many single-item projects but might seem disjointed for projects with multiple designs.

I'm relatively new to the world of portfolios and unsure about the best approach. Perhaps there are other options I haven't considered. Any advice or alternative suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope my message is clear. Thanks a lot!

To help in this respect, URAD will meet individually and collectively with students to help them craft their messages. During these meetings, students share their thoughts and writings with peers and advisors, who will provide them with guidance and feedback on what to create next.
