VAR - Google Docs Editors Help
To calculate variance across an entire population, use VARP. VAR takes the sum of the squares of each value's deviation from the mean and divides by the number of such values minus one. This differs from the calculation of variance across an entire population in that the latter divides by the ...

VARP - Google Docs Editors Help
To calculate variance while interpreting text values as 0, use VARPA. VARP calculates variance for an entire population. To calculate variance across a sample, use VAR. VARP takes the sum of the squares of each value's deviation from the mean and divides by the number of such values.

r/googlesheets on Reddit: How To Get The Variance Of Sample And Population Grouped Data
September 25, 2023 -
Is there an easier way to get the Variance from population data than =(14825-(535^2)/25)/25?
That equation works it's just long.
The main Issue is when I try to get the Variance of sample group data.
This equation (=(14216-(832^2)/50)/50-1) equals 6.4304 when in the text book it says the answer should be 7.5820.
Any help is much appreciated.

idk if its what you want but theres a function called varp() which is variation over a population.

The discrepancy between what you're getting and the textbook's answer is just a matter of misplaced parentheses. You have =(14216-(832^2)/50)/50-1 (divide (14216-(8322 )/50) by 50 and subtract 1) when =(14216-(832^2)/50)/(50-1) (divide (14216-(8322 )/50) by 49) produces the expected answer.
