I'm an "older person" who is a little challenged by the incredible complexity and feature rich nature of the many devices we have today. I'll be travelling in Europe in a few days and some people have suggested that using my iPhone Wallet would be advantageous. I have already entered my credit card and debit card - that was straightforward. But there is a banner on the main wallet screen that seems to suggest that I need to download a variety of apps to use the wallet for things other than payment, like airline boarding passes, tickets, etc.
I've tried doing a quick Google search but things aren't clear. Do I need to have an app installed for whatever company or organization in order to place an item in the wallet. For example, if I want to put Air Canada boarding passes in my wallet, do I need to have the Air Canada app? The same with, say, loyalty cards for my grocery store, or my health insurance card, etc, etc?

Hey there! It may seem not so straight forward, but usually you get an email with your boarding passes, or tickets right? And it usually contains a QR code right? In the wallet app, where you see the “wallet” banner that says “get” there’s also a + sign, that’ll let you scan a QR code and add either your ticket, boarding passes etc. I’m guessing some transit cards may be added the same way a debit/credit does (just tap it and done). AFAIK, app integration with wallet just gets you off the bother of opening the wallet app as it makes it more “context aware”, personally I only use the previous methods. Hope it helps, also you can add your drivers license for some states, and well, it does count as ID, lol. Wish I could store my actual ID and Passport, would be great!

For a long time, I never used apple wallet and didn't connect with my debit card. Whenever I made a rare in-app purchase I just used an apple gift card. I recently changed that because it just got annoying.
Anyway, I made an in app purchase in late April and I still haven't been charged yet. Do I have to somehow pay manually or will it eventually just charge my debit card? I was under the impression that it was the latter, but I feel like it should have charged me by now.

Apple Wallet has nothing to do with in-app purchases. You can set an Apple payment method on your phone’s settings (Profile, Media & Purchases, Manage Payment). When you make in-app purchases, the funds will be debited from the method you’ve set here. You can have different cards added in Apple Wallet. I recommend checking your profile about the purchase you made in April. Go to the App Store, tap on your name, select “Purchase History,” and you can list your purchases by specific in-app purchases. Make sure that all your purchases are paid. Apple can (based on others’ experiences) lock your account for unpaid purchases.
