My experience with HP Smart [The worst printer company]

After 2 years of use, I would like to give you my opinion on HP's service and explain why you should avoid this company.
Over the years, I've tried various printer brands, some better than others, and HP is ABSOLUTELY the WORST and should be avoided like the plague. Their service is terrible; for instance, there have been times when I found myself without internet due to construction near my home, issues with the internet provider, and similar situations. In these cases, it's IMPOSSIBLE to print, scan a document, or even make a simple photocopy. If you don't have an internet connection, this printer is as useful as a match during a snowstorm.
Many times, it automatically ordered cartridges (even when I wasn't using the printer), using the excuse of almost empty cartridges, which are actually NEW. In other words, they are thieves trying to take every last cent from you.
Their app (both mobile and desktop) is poorly designed, not just compared to the competition but fundamentally speaking about a well-made site in general that can provide a user experience, if not pleasant, at least functional and without issues. In the time I've tried to use their app, it works only half the time (I am a web/mobile developer).
To top it off, since I no longer want to give them my money, I decided to cancel the subscription and delete my account. It should be one of the simplest things to do nowadays, but not with them.
After spending at least 15 minutes to dissociate my account and delete the registered printer, I received an email confirming the cancellation of the subscription but stating that it will be automatically renewed in 6 months. It's basically a joke.
Finally, let's talk about deleting the account (something I haven't been able to do yet). We're talking about a company that makes a lot of money and can't pay their developers to create a page to allow you to delete your account, as is possible on 99% of sites today. You have to contact customer service and hope they respond. Maybe the quality of this service varies from country to country, but so far, after several attempts, I have not received any response for my account deletion request.
A couple of months ago, I bought the EPSON WorkForce WF-2965 (I paid 90/100€), and I am amazed not only by the quality but we are truly on another level. As a nice bonus, you have the possibility to use unofficial cartridges without any problem (which I bought on Amazon for 25€, tried them, and they work perfectly). For now, I am very satisfied with this new printer, but we'll see if it stands the test of time.
PS: Fuck you HP.

Edit 1 year after the original post:
After completely abandoning HP and reading/watching countless reviews online, I decided to purchase the Epson Workforce WF-2965. I have to say, this model fits my needs very well. I’ve never had any major issues, except for one time when I changed my internet provider. The printer has always been fast and reliable, whether I’m using it from a PC or a smartphone (no app required — as long as both devices are connected to the same network, it works flawlessly).
One of the best features of this model is how customizable it is in terms of print settings. If you need to print or copy double-sided on a single sheet, it’s very convenient and efficient.
There are only two minor drawbacks that might bother some users:
-
I’ve never bought the official ink cartridges. I always use third-party ones from Amazon, which cost about five times less and work perfectly. However, every time I replace a cartridge, I get a warning that I’m not using official Epson ink.
-
After a certain number of uses, the printer frequently displays a warning saying the ink is low — sometimes even claiming it’s empty — but in reality, you can still print over ten more pages with no issues.
If you're considering buying this model, don’t rely solely on my personal experience — I’m not an expert. Do your own research and check out reviews from people who understand these products better.
One final tip, at least if you live in Europe: don’t buy it in a physical store. Get it online (Amazon or other websites), where it usually sells for around 80–90€, compared to the 130€ price tag in most retail stores.
