IceWM is my goto when I need a memory-efficient WM. I remember deploying it on some old school computers with Pentium 3s and 512mb ram in the early 2010s. They still worked perfectly for browsing the web. I still use it today when I'm playing video games that need every megabyte of ram. More on reddit.com

[IceWM vs XFCE4] Between these two, which one of them is the best representative of that "rectangular glass on rectangular frame 1995 OS" ?
XFCE won as it looks more alike the 95's OS. IceWM looks more alike windows 7/8/10 oldthemed))) the frames are too thick. Thus I think the winner is XFCE. More on reddit.com

May 21, 2024 - I used icewm for a great many years. Every time I tried any other Desktop Environment or Window Manager, the same issues always kept happening -- I would settle in, enjoy the ease-of-use, lots of settings... but then it would release an update and break half of the available functions!

May 22, 2002 - Perhaps the best example of this is the variety of window managers you can choose from. Should you get bored with a certain window manager or decide you don’t like it, there are dozens more to try out. I’ve gone through a few myself, and IceWM is the one I keep coming back to.

r/openSUSE on Reddit: What is iceWM for?
July 28, 2016 -
For a while now, I wondered myself why every openSUSE installation besides the DE selected during install comes with "iceWM" as well? It is functional and such, but I strongly doubt it is used by a lot of people, and hence could easily be omitted (you could still install it, if you wanted). So why is it there?
