I was all keen to get the Norden but it wasn't available in Australia at the time we needed a table. I ended up with the Norden extendable version instead which ended up being a decent choice if you've got the space for a 4 person table but want to seat more people occasionally. I think the gateleg aspect would have been irritating as an everyday table (there are 3 of us in our household). So probably comes down to the space available and every day living. If your not sitting at the table every day (even when we're not eating at it ours gets lots of use as a work/homework/crafting space) and don't have space for a dedicated dining table then go with the most compact option, otherwise go with the most practical - which from your options I'd say would be the danderyd Answer from Dependent-Chair899 on reddit.com

I currently use the folding table like the one from Joanne's. It works good enough for now but is a bit wobbly and offers no additional storage. The make your own version with Lack tables seems easy enough and offers the added benefit of some storage on the bottom. Although you said it may be too wide it at least give you a visual to avoid the dreaded Pinterest fail! ... I just bought a Skarsta table from IKEA - a little over your price point - and a little narrow.

I'm furnishing a small living room and want to buy a foldable table.

Norden

Does anyone have any experience with these tables? How sturdy are they? Are there better alternatives?

Had a Norden in a rental and then immediately bought one ourselves. It’s great for flexibility. We’ve moved ours around the room a fair bit as well for different uses and it’s not had any issues. We have a living/dining room so mixed usage of our table was vital - until my partner got a wfh job and turned it into to his computer desk at least. Daily use for a year, still no issues.

I live in a small space and am eyeing the IKEA Norden table. I love that it has drawers for storage and folds up nicely, but unfortunately there’s nowhere to “hide” my machine for storage.
If you’re a Norden owner, I would so appreciate if you can provide the height and width of one of the drawers because I can’t find it anywhere online (see photo, highlighted in red). I’m wondering if I can leave the bottom drawers out during assembly and build a machine shelf instead. Thanks in advance!

I use it for my sewing table. The width of the space without the drawer is 6.5 inches I just attempted to put my Brother LB7000 in the space and it is too wide. It does fit perfectly on top of it when the leaves are collapsed.

I’m not 100% sure but it looks like the size would likely be around 10x15x9 inches based on their blueprints, and would use fibreboard for their drawers.

I’m new to the diy/crafting world and need some suggestions, hoping you guys can help. I scored a secondhand IKEA Norden table (the one with the solid birch tabletop) that I’m planning to use primarily for crafts (painting, coloring, cricut). I’m trying to think of ways to hide the likely damage coming its way; scratches, paint, etc. To clarify, I don't really care about how those things will look (though it’d be nice if it ends up looking cute!), my primary concern is making sure the table lasts awhile.
Are there things I should do to it to help protect it, or could I paint/decorate it in a way that will help hide whatever damage is done? I originally planned on painting it something cool and fun but I’m not sure where to start with that. I imagine I’d need to strip the lacquer first? What would be the best type of paint to cover it with? Any cool designs (but easy for a newbie, lol) I could put on there that will blend in/work with the scratches/random paint colors? I love bright colors. My mom mentioned something about mod podge but I feel like that’d just be adding more material to this table that’s just as likely to get damaged… then again, I’ve never worked with mod podge before.
Like I said, I’m new to this world and am open to any suggestions! TIA!

Mod Podge won't last on a tabletop not the right medium.It's good for crafting but not for this. I'd use contact paper,it'll protect the top, it's removable, comes in so many colors and patterns. Also a whiteboard type,you can decorate with whiteboard markers over and over. If the contact paper gets damaged it's easily and cheap enough to replace. You want to take care of the desk and protect the top as best you can because what you might like today WILL change in the future and a good desk will last for many years. It'll also save you any future headaches of trying to strip the desk when you tire of the decorations/paint. To further protect the surface use a silicone mat or a roll of plain craft paper (which you can doodle on). Another idea is lay down a canvas board and paint and decorate that instead of the desktop and when you want a change, just replace the canvas and hang your 'desk art' on the wall!
