Hello,
I'd like to turn the Besta Burs Ikea TV stand into a floating TV stand.
It weighs around 130 pounds (~60 kg).
Any idea what would be the best way of solidly hanging it to the wall?
I was thinking about maybe using some sort of shelf brackets like the guy on this video.
Another solution would be to use a horizontal 'hanging rail' as seen on this other video. From what I've found so far, it seems that most stands that are actually designed to be hanged use this system. But then, most of these stands aren't this heavy...
I have a solid wall.
What do you guys think? What would be the best way of going about doing this?

I'd use a pair of french cleats made from plywood. It should be strong enough to hold it. You'd need a table saw or a circular saw that could cut the 45 degree bevel.

Just use the rail they make for it, thats what I used to hang the same unit and it works fine. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10124585/ The ikea kitchen cabinets work off the same type of rail system. The rail attaches to the wall studs/anchors and hooks on essentially. So the weight is distributed across the wall. I had that cabinet and my tv on top of it no problem for the last 2 years until I wall mounted the tv. Also be sure to get the smoked glass top for the cabinet, makes it much nicer looking.

So, looking for ideas on how to mount this unit above my tv. There’s no extra bracketry or mounting hardware available. It seems to assume you’ve got wall studs 24inches on center. My house is 16. This will not hang safely with anchor mounts into my plaster walls.
In order to keep it flush the wall, should I craft up a wooden backing plate that I can affix to the 4 aluminum brackets, where I can then screw the backing plate to my studs after I’ve found the exact position in the wall I want it?
Thanks in advance if you know of a better pre fabricated aluminum strip or bracketry!

I’m starting to realize that these pieces do not accommodate for American structures. We have 24” spacing between studs while European buildings are 16”. You would think IKEA would have other options when selling to other countries.

I would recommend using the regular Besta units instead of the TV one across the top unless for some reason you need those wire holes. Regular Bestas use a mounting rail that will line up to your studs no matter where they are along the wall. That said, 3/16 toggle bolt anchors will support the cabinets just fine with your walls.
