October 28, 2022 - Ours was already used for toy storage in the room so we saved a step. I placed the TROFAST wall storage unit on top of the shelving unit to create a desk cubby. It also provides additional storage for stationery, craft materials, etc.

I'm planning on buying a couple of fold-out desks similar to this one and modifying them to no longer be wall mounted by placing a couple of drawer sets or simple pieces of 2x4 under them.
The problem I'm facing is that these desks are too thin for my purposes, measuring only about 6.5 inches deep when folded up. As such, I'm looking for an Ikea desk or a hack I can do to create a desk that folds out with this leg design while still being large enough to put stuff like a fold-out monitor arm into.
Are there any Ikea equivalents that I can look at and use? I don't have many woodworking tools like a jigsaw or hacksaw, so I'd prefer a premade piece of furniture, although simple hacks like this outdoor table (https://ikeahackers.net/2019/05/folding-outdoor-table-applaro-gateleg.html) are well within my capacity.

They don't make it :( You can maybe look into fold down desk hacks using the narrow IVAR shelves. Sometimes people hack them using one wide shelf as a fold down table, mounted onto the narrower set (which must be secured to the wall so it won't tip). The table suggested to you already is used in some hacks with IVAR too. IVAR's own fold down table works well. All of this options work, but if you don't want anything resting on the floor, you'd have to cut them in half and wall mount them, but then the weight could be an issue. The reason the desk you posted is so narrow and made of chipboard (if it's the kind sold here) is it's a lot of weight to ask of a wall, especially with the torque of putting it up and down frequently, plus storing heavy desk stuff in it. If it was my project, I'd have a chat with a local carpenter and just ask for a custom job, or help to make it. Best of luck to you!

I'm looking at the https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/bjursta-wall-mounted-drop-leaf-table-brown-black-80217524/ and https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/norberg-wall-mount-drop-leaf-tbl-w-storage-white-20497928/ and wondering of there's a safe and durable way to reverse the hinges so that they fold up instead of down, adding something at the top to hold it in place when closed. What do you think?

Interesting idea, although the support hardware will be visible when it’s folded up. It looks possible with the Bjursta since both the support and the table are particleboard. Although the holes for the hinges are pre-drilled in both of those pieces, it seems likely that you could drill new holes for the hinges in the “top” of each of these and mount the hinges on the top edge of each. Maybe not possible with the Norberg because there doesn’t appear to be anywhere to mount the hinges on the top of the cabinet portion. Note that this creates a serious issue in that if the tabletop is dropped down and the support leg has not been moved into place, the hinges are likely not going to support the weight and are just going to rip out of the tabletop. Probably not recommended.
