If you really want a custom sink & top, then what everyone has said is true, without IKEA’s special plumbing, the pipes won’t fit. If it were me and I was determined to use Hemnes but not an IKEA sink, then I just wouldn’t build the top drawer, and instead just attach it to the frame from behind with some flat brackets from the hardware store. Then you have that entire upper area for the sink and plumbing and you can still use the bottom drawer like normal. I have installed hemnes vanities with ikea sinks in my last two houses and they hold up really well. Good luck! I hope it turns out exactly as you envisioned! Answer from Adora_Mae on reddit.com

My proudest IKEA hack! Classy modern vanity from an IKEA favorite / Create / Enjoy
One of my favorite successes of our "two bathrooms in four days" reno projects was the affordable, cute, clean and modern bathroom vanity we created out of an IKEA sink cabinet! Here's a bit of a tutorial for you! IKEA Hemnes 2-drawer sink cabinet in 31.5" or 40.5" (this will not work as well with other models, since the pre-drilled holes will be centered on the drawers--you would have to use a cup-style pull covering the hole)

May 12, 2022 - Like most Ikea furniture, they have a more modern look. The Hemnes vanity is pretty minimal in design which allows for an easy style change. Hemnes Sink Cabinet Hack
I bought the sink cabinet Hemnes Rattviken with 2 drawers in white color. When I brought it home, the modern design and white color of the cabinet did not match my New England style interior of the bathroom (and the house itself). I'm wondering if anyone has had luck using a custom sink & countertop with the Hemnes vanity base. I see plenty of info using the Godmorgon vanity base but cannot seem to find anything in regards to the Hemnes. I am looking to using the 23" Hemnes base with an UNDERMOUNT sink. Thank you in advance!

It’s theoretically possible just might have clearance issues with a different sink/plumbing. The ikea sinks aren’t all that deep in part to allow the full drawer below

IKEA Hemnes Bathroom Vanity Makeover
IKEA Hemnes bathroom vanity ✨makeover✨ This project was super fun and only cost ~ $38 between paint, trim, and hardware. I will share the breakdown of this project if you guys are interested! I love IKEA because it’s so hackable. Purchasing a new vanity would have set me back at least $500-1000k for very simple models so this is a great way to add some character to your builder grade bathroom.

Has anyone successfully sanded down a white hemnes bathroom vanity? I think it just looks so plain in the house i just purchased and am thinking of staining it a nice pecan color to match my bathroom shelves. Any tips or tricks you guys can give? TIA

January 26, 2021 - I hadn’t told them yet, but I also wanted a wide sink so that two kids could stand side-by-side to wash their hands. Unsurprisingly (if you know me,) it started at IKEA.
