How astronauts sleep on the ISS
Former ISS Flight Controller here: Every astronaut has his own "sleeping quarters." It's about the size of a large refrigerator and holds all of the personal items, sleeping bag, a computer for private conferences with family or e-mail checking (and Reddit in Mr. Hadfield's case) and yes, fans to circulate the air. Every sleeping quarter also has a window, it has a cover. There are multiple windows on board, for example, two in the Japanese module, one in the US Lab, the Cupola, and one in the Russian service module. They do dim the lights at "night" on ISS, as well as turning off all of the onboard cameras, so that the astronauts have privacy. They operate on GMT time. Btw, there has been a Korean woman onboard the ISS, she flew up in the extra seat that the Soyuz capsule had before the Space Shuttle retired. Other notable passengers include the guy that founded Cirque Du Soleil, Guy Laliberté, the billionaire clown. More on reddit.com

December 15, 2023 - ISS generally tries to save as much space as possible, so having a tiny sleeping capsule makes sense. Also so you don't float away. I imagine the first night at the space station must feel extremely surreal

Sleep in space - Wikipedia
September 21, 2025 - During the Apollo program, it was discovered that adequate sleep in the small volumes available in the command module and Lunar Module was most easily achieved if (1) there was minimum disruption to the pre-flight circadian rhythm of the crew members; (2) all crew members in the spacecraft slept at the same time; (3) crew members were able to doff their suits before sleeping; (4) work schedules were organized – and revised as needed – to provide an undisturbed (radio quiet) 6-8 hour rest period during each 24-hour period; (5) in zero-g, loose restraints were provided to keep the crewmen fr
