Pay special attention to Nebo which beats all the rest when it comes to converting whole documents with handwritten test into typed text with just one click. I'd say yes. The Apple pencil support is just a lot better. No weird adapters or janky cable setups necessary to charge it, you just leave it attached on the side and it charges. It's just a much better user experience. The screen is also laminated on the Air which besides the looks makes writing feel a little better. You probably wont make use of the better chip, but it's something you have to take into account regardless since it adds to the objective value. I was planning on buying an ipad mostly to use productivity apps (office + reading) and some OTT usage. Confused between the two. Was initially inclined to buy 10th gen as the cost is low but it offers only 64gb for 34k and cost of the variant with higher storage is close to that of ipad air 11". More on reddit.com

I’m currently a university student and I am looking to up my game when it comes to note taking.
I already have a M2 Macbook air which takes care of a lot of tasks but i’m looking to use an iPad solely for note taking and possibly reading textbooks.
I’ve also noticed that the iPad isn’t compatible with the Apple Pencil 2 and that a lot of people preferred the newer pencil over the old one.
I was wondering if anyone had this similar debate and considering that I will mostly be using this ipad for note taking and reading. And considering that my Macbook is my preference for other tasks, is it worth going for the air and the newer pencil or will the base ipad at its lower cost be plenty sufficient?

A lot of the critics of the iPad 10 when comparing it to the iPad Air 5 (and even the 4) love banging on about the non-laminated screen and the objectively weaker technical specs (as well as completely subjective crap about it feeling 'cheaper')... but honestly, unless you've got substantial experience with using other more advanced iPads, then as a normie you're genuinely not going to notice that stuff. I've never been a big iPad user, but when I was trying out the iPad Air 5 and the iPad 10 at the shop they basically looked and felt exactly the same because they still have that 60hz display rather than the super luxe silky smooth 120hz screen of the Pro. M1 iPads will probably be more future-proofed and better optimised with future software updates... but for the relatively basic stuff you'll be doing as a student, it is probably more powerful than it needs to be, and I highly doubt there'll be any noticeable difference with day to day tasks. A14 is still a powerful chip if you don't expect to being do high-end video processing and graphics editing. Landscape camera is nice to have and hilariously the iPad that everyone hates is currently the only product in the lineup to have that. I don't give two shits about the Apple Pencil so that doesn't factor in at all for me. Really comes down to what you're actually going to be doing, what your budget is, and what you're willing to pay. iPad 10th gen's real issue is its price, and at its current RRP it is probably more expensive than it needs to be compared to the iPad 9th gen... but it is still a better product than the 9th gen, and still substantially cheaper than the Air 5. And only a chump would pay full price, especially seeing that Apple now offer education store discounts without verification when you're buying online. Just be mindful of falling for Apple's pricing ladder bullshit that a lot of tech reviewers buy into... yes, you're only paying this much more for the next nicest model, but you're still paying more than you intended to for something you probably didn't really need.
