At my shop/office, we put wood look tile in our showroom. I wanted something that would hold up to dirty boots, sliding chairs, deliveries, and general hard use while being easy to clean. When I show customers our LVP displays, they point down and ask all the time “Which one is this?” And I have to tell them it’s actually tile. Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

Do you regret installing porcelain tile?
The porcelain tile I got is a beautiful medium colored realistic hardwood pattern in a large plank format. I am completely in love with it. I even got normal sized grout lines in the color of the knots on the wood and it's insane how much I love it. It's better than real wood to me. It's way way harder to scratch. Like it doesn't break till you Crack it all the way through. And these tiles are half an inch thick of porcelain. I had a porcelain bathtub in an older century home and that made me fall in love with porcelain. It was indestructible. It was 100 years old and you scrubbed it with steel wool and it wouldn't scratch. You could get anything off it. The tile finely textured so it's non slip but it's still scrubbable and resilient in the face of chemical cleaners. Impossible to stain. Impossible to damage with water. You put a layer of waterproofing under your tile, earthquake proofing, seal that grout, and you won't have to worry about that tile except for regrouting rarely. More on reddit.com

tile "quality" question
From what I understand, the difference is often actually measurable - more expensive tiles are more consistent in size, which translates to a better look (especially when installed with tight gaps). This said, $149 a square foot is stupid expensive, it might make sense for a small foyer or accent, it does not make sense for a larger area. Something to keep in mind with decor choices like this - the wow factor lasts weeks, months at best. The regret of spending an extra $114 a square foot will stay with you as long as you own the house. More on reddit.com

August 19, 2023 -

I’m torn between porcelain tile and either LVP or waterproof laminate (I can’t find a significant difference between these two). Although more expensive, I’ve learned from research that porcelain tile with withstand just about anything before an earthquake, and should last a lifetime.

Has this been your experience with porcelain tile? If not, what do you wish you had installed instead?
