I would question what's the purpose of learning one vs the other, it depends if you want to find a job, or if it is a specific thing you want to build, I'm a huge advocate of the right tool for the job, I don't think one is better than the other, you need to point out the pros and cons of which and think of which one is the best option for that specific thing you would build. In saying that I have been seeing Java is quite a 'niche' thing in terms of jobs and therefore there's a lack of good developers making salaries a tad bit higher than python. I suppose python has more scope but python pays less, so it depends a lot on what you want, with that said you can find low-paying jobs for both skills and high-paying jobs for both skills. In terms of learning, although java and python in terms of level are on the same level, java has a more 'robust' syntax, and I think it's less intuitive, I prefer java but that's personal preference, depending on what I need to implement I would go with python, or ruby, or rust, or any other language that I find necessary. Hope it helps.

Python is a good language to learn some of the basics of programming with, but I find it is not used often in production (outside of maybe Django) as much. It’s great for quickly scripting a task though. Java is a fast, tried and true language with tons of support and has many applications. Java is the better language to learn for you career and employment, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with learning the fundamentals with python
