What tasks are usually assigned to a Python intern/junior at a real company?
You will probably find that varies wildly from company to company. I assigned our interns a task to convert a couple of relatively complex Korn shell scripts to Python. I felt that this was the best way to get them familiar with some aspects of our data warehouse (specifically metadata management) as well as get their feet wet with Unix scripting and Python at the same time. I obviously let them know that they could ask questions of me at any time, and scheduled bi-weekly meetings to check on progress and resolve any issues. It worked out well, I think. We will be offering both of them permanent positions after graduation. More on reddit.com

I encourage you to spend some time looking at current job listings. What skills are actually being sought in the market today? At least in the US there have been, and probably will continue to be, rather large layoffs in the tech industry. This almost certainly means it is a somewhat tighter job market here. If you choose to apply for a job, read the description and required skill lists very closely. Make sure that your cover letter AND resume/CV specifically details your use/knowledge of the requirements. Do NOT make the HR staff have to guess if you are suitable for the job. I currently work at a state university. Hiring goes through a State HR system. They are overworked and don't know the difference between a Civil Engineer, Software engineer, Network engineer, etc. They are very good at counting though. If a job requirement asks for two years of X and you have one year and 360 days of active experience... they will not pass you through the system. Good luck on your journey More on reddit.com

Python is a tool. You call an electrician, not a phillips screwdriver expert. For more niche languages hiring may be focused on getting someone, anyone who knows the language but Python is readable and editable by most programmers (even if they can't program in it from scratch). More on reddit.com
