I've got a Q1v2 and a V1. Both with brown switches. Spent a lot of hours on each and I love them both. The V1 is a crazy good value. Very solid. Weighty. Great "thocky" typing sound/feel right out of the box. It looks pretty cool IMO. Quite honestly this is all the keyboard I would ever need. Q1 had a pingy/echoy sound at first but I did a simple sound mod with painter's tape. The looks are absolutely A++++ out of this world IMO. Super premium look and feel. I feel like a star or something typing on this thing. Is the Q1 twice as good as the V1? Oh hell no. It's maybe 2% better to me and that is really just look and feel and not the actual typing experience. However... if you have disposable income... and you spend 40 hours a week on your keyboard... which is 2,000 hours a year... and the keyboard should last 5+ years... so you will use it for 10,000+ hours... maybe that extra 2% enjoyment is worth an extra $100. edit: Depending on your preferences, the translucent version of the V1 may actually look better because the lighting effects can shine through the translucent case! The Q1 is higher build quality and more customizable. It’s more inline with higher end custom mech keyboards while the original K series isn’t as well built but it does have Bluetooth. It really depends if you have the money and want a higher build quality or just want an intro mech keyboard that works with Mac. The K2 is great, I assume (don’t own one but I do own a K4 and K3) and while the K3 is a better build quality, the slim isn’t really for me. The K4 is great but after messing with higher end keyboards, it’s hard to look at it as an amazing keyboard. The K series are great introductions to mechanical keyboards but the Q series is an even better introduction to the hobby of modding and customization. So it really depends on you. Do you care about having a fully metal case where you can add different stabilizers, custom badges, different frames, mods, and all or do you care more about Bluetooth and ease of use. I'm looking to get a new mechanical keyboard and Keychron seems the way to go based on my googling.
I was just wondering what are the actual differences between the Q series and the V series, and do the differences justify the Q being twice the price of an equivalent V

I know others have posted answers, but the bottom line is this - The Q (and Q Pro) series are constructed with solid, heavy, premium aluminum cases weighing up to 2.5kg (since I see you're the UK). That's pretty heavy for a keyboard. But it's like having a keyboard built in to a rock. It will stay put on your desk. Also, the mounting system for the PCB (printed circuit board), plate, switches and keycaps uses a gasket mount, so the whole thing can flex up and down vertically, providing some cushion as you type. Some people don't get much out of it. Some people love it. But, basically, the keys are all isolated from the case, so they can move and flex and bounce a bit despite the 5 lbs of metal surrounding them. The Q Pro series adds a plastic window to the back of the case, a battery, and a bluetooth module. As far as solid aluminum gasket-mount keyboards go, the Keychron Q line is very reasonably priced compared to the other available options (almost all of which require user assembly). The V series uses a plastic case and the PCB is screwed down to the bottom half of the case, so there's no flex whatsoever. The bottom of the case has a molded silicone pad that helps to reduce internal echos and add some weight. But the V series does have some benefits. Price, adjustable feet along the bottom to change the keyboards angle, and easier construction should you want to open it up for any reason. Also, the PCB and USB connector are all one piece. The Q/Q Pro series uses a daughter card that adds some complexity (again, not important unless you're disassembling it, but people do) but has the benefit of being easier to repair should you break the USB connector (or just adds one more item to break, depending on how you look at it). All three model lines maintain the same QMK/VIA programmability and have open-source firmware.
