Just got laid off today!
First of all, sorry to hear this. If you are in the US, the first thing you should do is reach out to the Department of Labor office in the jurisdiction where you work, and apply for unemployment insurance. If you have been given any separation papers, speak to an employment attorney to have them review it for you, to be sure you’re not being put into a disadvantageous circumstance. (Many employment attorneys will review one small document as a free consultation) Once you have that situated, take a day or two to decompress and regroup. Don’t take any of this stuff personally Establish a new routine for yourself to help manage your affairs in a way that will aid mental health Review your resume, map out what you want to do next, and start job searching More on reddit.com

Laid off this morning
It’s getting bad. There’s no consequences when these corps effectively ruin people’s careers for accounting theater. Many cut deep and then rehire many of the positions within a year. There should be huge fines when companies do this kind of shit. You have moronic CEO’s running companies into the ground (Hey, let’s drop HBO from our name) yet they still get bonuses while they layoff people who’s annual salaries barely cover their own salary while they take a random Tuesday morning shit. Former and current Microsofties react to the latest layoffs
There is a perpetual climate of fear inside the company. Instead of ripping the band aid off and being done it’s a continuous parade of monthly layoffs causing many to be fearful. I have seen a regression towards the old way of teams fighting each other instead of working towards a common goal. The secrecy is the worst. Layoffs in my group happened and they won’t tell us who is gone from the people I work with and rely on. The work didn’t go away though. It was just added onto the backs of those who remain. The cost cutting isn’t limited to people. They took away the post it notes and pads of paper in the supply rooms in my building. More on reddit.com

How do you differ from other tech layoff trackers?
We are following individual WARN records from government entities, rather than crowdsourced data. Most of these records indicate exact offices and employee counts affected at each office, rather than just a single overall number for the entire company. These records are often more exhaustive than the crowdsourced data. This means they reflect small layoffs, as well as layoffs from companies which may not be large enough to be announced in the press. The timeline for filing these notices can vary -- they may be made available before or after a pub

How does WARN work in different states?
Some states have their own "mini-WARN" laws that provide additional protections or cover smaller employers not covered by the federal law. For example, California has a state law known as the California WARN Act, which covers employers with 75 or more employees and provides some additional protections, such as requiring notice to be given to employees who are terminated as well as the state. In New York, the state's Mini-WARN Act requires employers with 50 or more employees to provide 90 days' notice of a plant closing or mass layoff. So, the specifics of the WARN notice requirements can vary

What is WARN?
A WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice is a notice required by the federal WARN Act in the United States, which mandates that employers with 100 or more employees provide at least 60 days advance written notice of a plant closing or mass layoff affecting 50 or more employees. The notice is intended to provide affected employees with sufficient time to prepare for the loss of their jobs and to seek alternative employment. This is also why some of the layoff dates in our tracker are in the future. For more details, https://www.warntracker.com/blog/warn-act-guide
