I would replace the seal on the bottom of the shell but you don't need to do that right away. You can always take it off at a more convenient later date and do it on your own time instead of while buying it. Look for cracks, chips, cosmetic defects, check the keys for the locks and for the rack if it has one. They're really very simple, if something is glaringly wrong you should be able to spot it during a visual inspection. More on reddit.com

I have an older fiberglass cap on my 19 frontier. The weather seals are shot on it. I plan to replace them in the spring. On that note, my rollup cover and now this cap both leak at the passenger side bed corner. The sheetmetal of the bed has a seam there and no matter how much foam gasket i added to the corner with the Tonneau cover it always leaked a bit. Also i left the plastic bed rails on, and mounted both cover and cap ontop of them. Could be that also adds just enough height difference from the bed rails to the rear wall that would allow water to sneak by a foam gasket seal. More on reddit.com
