There is no compatibility with a projector of any type to worry about with these adapters. They work, or they don't. You can hook it to a TV for testing or a projector, or any other display and see if it works. If it works with one display, it should work with all of them. I have only Apple original adapters, and one cheap adapter. The cheap adapter is hit or miss. The Apple original adapters all work well. More on reddit.com

Functionally it’s a Lightning to HDMI, but iPhones don’t technically support HDMI out so Apple has a special SoC inside this adapter doing some magic to make it all work. Apperanlty it's not that the iPhone (or iPad in my case) doesn't support HDMI, but that Lightning port itself doesn't support it. There is no compatibility with a projector of any type to worry about with these adapters. They work, or they don't. You can hook it to a TV for testing or a projector, or any other display and see if it works. If it works with one display, it should work with all of them. I have only Apple original adapters, and one cheap adapter. The cheap adapter is hit or miss. The Apple original adapters all work well.

Simple question. I used to connect my old phone to my tv using a lightning-to-av adapter... then plugging in HDMI. Easy peasy. Worked so great I bought a few adapters for different locations.
Recently wife upgraded me to an iPhone 15 (ugh), which apparently has "USB-C port". So my old lightning-to-av adapters no longer fit.
So the big question - if I buy a "USB-C to Lighting Adapter", will the old av adapters work?

I think that depends on whether or not the old AV adapters use USB protocol to communicate with the phone. Honestly, I'd bite the bullet and get new av adapters since USB-C has official and standardized support for video output. The Lightning implementation was kind of a hack. Or you can just try it and return the USB-C to Lightning adapter if it doesn't work...

I’ve been gaming with a controller quite a bit since the release of iOS 13. Until a few days ago I was using one of those flexible arms to hold my phone and to keep my hands free, but now I have the Lightning to Digital AV adapter. Functionally it’s a Lightning to HDMI, but iPhones don’t technically support HDMI out so Apple has a special SoC inside this adapter doing some magic to make it all work. That’s why they charge $50, and it’s why you really need to avoid the third party adapters. It’s not a simple device.
Anyway, it works great with my iPhone XR. I’ve been playing Sky, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Steam Link and Apple Arcade on the big screen. When you are playing a game the screen is mirrored on your TV(turn your brightness down to keep your phone cool while mirroring). Games will be shown to your TV in the aspect ratio of your phone. I’m using an iPhone XR so the games that support ultra widescreen show up with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. If you mess around your TV’s aspect ratio settings you can get an image that fills the screen if you really want to, but it will cut off the sides of the image.

I mostly use it with my iPad to play emulators on the TV. If a game has cloud saves I’ll output from my iPhone instead since the iPad is 4:3. There’s some lag, but I only notice it in games that require precise input, like a golf game using a meter for shots. Otherwise it’s great.

Make sure that you're using a Digital AV adapter (which has an HDMI port). If you're using a VGA adapter, it doesn't carry audio signals.
