EDIT TO ADD: TLDR: 1) I’m used to THICK, DURABLE cargo shorts I got in late ‘90’s-early-‘00’s (and I’m still wearing).
2) Only shorts I’ve seen in last couple years are TOO THIN/ELASTICALLY/LIKE “SWIM SHORTS.”
3) I also like them LONG: AT/AROUND BOTTOM OF KNEECAP (willing to get bigger size waste, if absolutely necessary, to get right length - e.g. 36 instead of my 33-34...I’m 5’10” btw)
I’ve been wearing (/wearing out/losing) the same cargos for probably 10-15 years. So for the last 2-3 springs/summers, I’ve randomly walked into a local Kohl’s, Target, Old Navy etc. but always left empty handed...and I just noticed there’s a giant hole in the crotch of one, and realized that I’m finally down to my very last “good” pair.
Extra Notes/Context, in case I’m not clear about what I’m looking for:
My first cargo shorts were bought from Abercrombie & Fitch roughly around 1999-2002 (the shorts are long gone), and they were “heavier,” “durable” etc. The same goes for the 4-5 pairs I’ve been wearing for the last 10-15 years, purchased from various different stores (I can’t 100% recall which ones, unfortunately)...so this is the type/design I’m used to.
But all the shorts I’ve come across in the last couple years have seemed so “thin.” I don’t know if this has just been/is just the current style, and maybe the old ones will be back - hopefully (fingers crossed) this year???...or if it’s just that, according to the girl at Old Navy, “they (“everyone”???) use cheaper material now.”
Lastly/Importantly: Again, bc I’m used to a ‘90’s/early-‘00’s style - I like them “LONGER”/“baggier;” i.e. at/around the bottom of the kneecap (For Ref: My very first non-Umbros shorts were jean shorts in ~1996-97 - aka mid-shin/practically down to my ankles...so I’ve been conditioned to the point where at/above the mid-knee length shorts is impossible, lol).**
Right now, I'm using the Wrangler Authentics Men's Performance Comfort Flex Cargo Shorts (boy, that's a mouthful). I really like them, but I'm wondering if anyone has anything similar they suggest in terms of BIFL, or if those are worth buying again.
I wear my shorts a few sizes too large, so I'm looking for something that goes up to 46 or 48. Nothing with any crazy patterns, please. Just simple, solid color in some shade of grayscale or khaki or maybe a dark green.
Thanks!
(Unrelated, but the sidebar has all sorts of BIFL stuff... from 2014 and 2016? That's a long time ago. Should I even trust it anymore?)
