hate their naming convention. Yeah… D Digital (ie. LXT with Star-protection) ‒ versus B for LXT without Star-protection G Grinder A Angle 5 5-inch (125 mm) ‒ versus 4/7/9 (115 mm, 180 mm, 230 mm) 1 first generaition meh LETTERS ‒ same tool, different accessories (Makpac, batteries, charger, …) Everything hinges on that second digit; with even numbers being AWS Bluetooth support(?) and odd numbers without. Lower numbers seem to be on-off switch (on top), higher numbers tend to have a traditional paddle switch (underneath grip); and numbers in the middle seem to be with electric brake, and with variable speed controller. '9' appears to be X-Lock. Answer from paul-sladen on reddit.com

Makita Cordless Grinder Review - Tools In Action - Power Tool Reviews
November 8, 2017 - If you look at corded grinders, you can see that most of them are about $200 to $250. The Makita XAG12PT1 is $400 on The Home Depot website. So you are paying about $150 to $200 more to lose the cord. If you are using a 7″ all day every day, you will still have to stick with a corded version. But if you need a 7″ cordless grinder, the extra cost is worth it and not a bad price considering everything Makita gives, which includes the batteries and charger.

Buying advice 18V Makita Multi-Tool and Angle Grinder - FineWoodworking
February 24, 2023 - Do you have cordless tools, batteries, and chargers now? I prefer to stick with one platform. I don't see much difference between any of the better brands, so I wouldn't bother having different batteries and charges. Makita makes excellent tools. But if I already had DeWalt or Milwaukee tools, I'd just get their angle grinder too.

June 19, 2022 -

I love makita, but I hate their naming convention. Looking for an 18v angle grinder with brushless motor, paddle switch and electronic brake. In my Amazon cart I have two right now. DGA515z ($164) and DGA508z ($200). What’s the difference? Have any other recommendations? I don’t mind spending over $200 if it’s good. I would prefer a more “professional” tool rather than a normal consumer quality one.

Makita Angle Grinder Review: Is it Worth It? - Tested By Bob Vila
September 2, 2021 - When testing the Makita, I compared it to several other angle grinders with the same grinding wheels and cutting discs attached. Not only did this give me a solid grasp of how the Makita performs, it also showed how it stacks up against other cordless models.

August 26, 2024 - Agree with all, genuine Katsu seem to have cornered the market on Makita look alikes. Got to use one of their cordless brushless reciprocals a few weeks ago, dreadful, I do own however one of their impact drivers, nothing special, a little slow but surprisingly it does drive and well. @johnakay should be looking at a brushless cordless unit but he won't get anywhere near 20000rpm unless it's a typo. ... the reason why I desire the 4" is that I do have a 4" corded grinder so still got quite few pads left over since retiring.

February 23, 2023 - A 4” grinder is a light duty grinder, cordless version even lighter duty. But for a lot of trades, the convenience beats the power for a seldom used tool. I’ve got no clue what you need a grinder for, so can’t say how long a 5ah is gonna last or wether this is the right grinder for your needs. ... I was wire wheeling my anvil with my Makita ...

September 5, 2024 -

I need an 18v cordless angle grinder. I don't want one with the X-Lock system. It will mainly be used for around the house metal cutting. Outside of that, I don't really have a preference. What should I look for? Is it worth it to buy used? Is there a site with deals or refurbished tools you'd recommend?
