r/facebook on Reddit: mbasic is going away on 28 October 2024 - what's the alternative?
October 17, 2024 -
Apparently mbasic.facebook.com is going away on 28 October 2024.
Facebook are just saying it's to "enhance security and optimize the user experience", both of which are lies (unless they mean optimize from their point of view, not ours).
They say "on older versions of mobile browsers" and recommend using the latest Chrome or Firefox. Which is also a lie because the latest version of Firefox shows exactly the same warning.
So what's the alternative now?
Things I really like about mbasic - you can right click (or long press) on text and copy/paste it elsewhere, and you can open something in a new tab.

Hey, thanks for making a Reddit thread about this. This thread came up as the first result when I tried asking a popular chatbot for help finding official information regarding mbasic. Ope. I'm using the most recent version of (desktop) Firefox and also got a suggestion to install Chrome/Firefox/Safari. For what it's worth, with a lot of work I've been able to set up third party browser extensions to make the standard site more usable...but this makes the site even slower on my (relatively low-speed) connection. Guessing I'll switch to using the site less frequently. Currently, I find it easy to quickly check Facebook, and don't really know of a good alternative. Facebook does ostensibly have an accessibility department that might be worth contacting.

I loved mbasic for when you wanted to do a cutpaste without the formatting. I imagine many ppl for many reasons really relied on it, especially impaired people or people on older devices etc. Is there any alternative to access the mbasic text from posts?
