Whistleblower: Minnesota’s Child Care Assistance Program has fraud cases dating back 12 years
We all need to put our political differences aside and start listening to each other. If there really is fraud that’s been going on unpunished and unchecked for 10+ years, part of it is because we haven’t been listening to each other. Not listening to each other prevents us from using overwhelming democratic power to keep those we elect responsible and accountable. I want there to be further investigations into this to uncover the scale of any fraud until both sides are satisfied that justice has been done and everything is back above board. Full disclosure: I’m a flaming progressive and I want my tax dollars to go to achieve the mission statement of the Child Care Assistance Program. I recognize that we don’t all agree on the state government’s role to even run such a program. That’s why we use democracy to decide. But we all agree that fraud must be eliminated. Fact checking if the daycares have children or not
The video i saw, showed them asking to see the kids. Strangers that dont have connection with children should not be allowed in. If my kids school let them in, there would be hell to pay for them and those who asked to sèe the kids. Also like everyone pointed out, its winter break for fucks sake!! More on reddit.com

Answer: YouTuber Nick Shirley posted an exposé on Youtube in which he claims to have found numerous fake childcare centers in Minnesota that are being used as a front by Somali immigrants to steal welfare money to the tune of millions of dollars. The video includes him visiting childcare centers that he claims have received millions of dollars worth of government money, and he claims they are closed and have no children present. The FBI is starting an investigation, and right-wing media is using this to actively attack Minnesota governor and former Democratic VP pick Tim Waltz Walz. The left-wing media has been entirely silent on this so far, while as far as I can tell none of Shirley's claims have been independently verified. His visits to these closed childcare centers could very easily have been staged, visiting centers already closed down (According to locals one of the sites visited was apparently in the process of being turned into a restaurant), or timed to coincide with the Christmas holidays when these locations could have been closed anyway. The timing of the release of the video on the 26th is probably not a coincidence. Previous footage of him interviewing people and harassing childcare sites could have been combined with key shots of closed childcare centers filmed during the Christmas break. EDIT: As others have pointed out it's not like a childcare center would randomly let in a film crew uninvited and let them film children under their care without permission. Particularly when he's actively harassing people and asking them point blank about how much fraud they are committing at the moment. He claims they were filmed on a weekday, which technically wouldn't be a lie if they were filmed on the 25th (a Thursday). The person he interviews regarding the investigation is identified only as 'David' and no background or details is given on him what-so-ever that could be verified, leading me to believe he's just some nut. It's also probably not a coincidence that this report was released while the Somali population in Minnesota has been under a microscope by the Right in the media lately. While Trump acolyte Mike Lindell (MyPillow guy) just won a primary in that State to go against Tim Walz for governor in 2026. Either this is indeed a massive scandal uncovered by an independent journalist, or possibly just a minor one deliberately blown out of proportion because it suits the right-wing narrative of attacking immigrant groups and claiming massive welfare fraud. Targeting one of Trump's key political opponents (Tim Waltz Walz) may just be a bonus. Nick Shirley is pro-Trump influencer. His Youtube page is full of videos of him supporting ICE raids, anti-socialist videos, and selected interviews of people at rallies. Typical right-wing influencer stuff.
