I bought myself a mockmill a few months ago, and I don't like it. Bought it for the bakery and find that the flour has a weird smell. I'm hyper sensitive to smells, and there aren't a whole lot of other people who have said they notice the same thing, but there are a few. The attachment for your mixer is probably the cheapest way to go. The kitchenaid version looks sturdier, the mockmill one is plastic and does feel flimsy (have used it before; it's slow to grind flour) but might work fine for you. Grinding my own flour...Vitamix vs Kitchenaid vs Mockmill...which to get?

Just bought wheat berries for the first time… What is the best grain mill?
Most grain mills are going to be loud i think. I have the mockmill 100. It works great and is compact. Definitely isn't quiet though. Sounds like many others have nutrimill. Not sure of the noise level on that. More on reddit.com
Why is it hard to find a used grain mill
I’ve also wondered the same thing myself. As someone who purchased the mockmill 100 with the regular case (aka cheapest one) I have never, not even for a second, wanted or felt the need to upgrade, and thats from someone who loves to upgrade everything else. Customer satisfaction probably has a lot to do with the limited availability on the secondhand market. I’ve only seen one mockmill (it was a 100) for sale on CL or FB in probably 7 or so years, and it was an unopened present. Never seen a used model. More on reddit.com

Honest Review of the Mockmill Flour Mill | Grain Mill 101
November 13, 2025 - I personally have owned both a Wondermill (an impact mill) and a Mockmill 100 (a stone mill). Let’s dig into the pros and cons, so I’ll give you my honest opinion based on my experience with both of these flour mill machines. ... A good budget option when you’re first starting out. It’s easy to use and it gets the job done. Comes with a container to hold the freshly ground flour. ... Loud. Very, very loud. Grinding grains during naptime or after bedtime would not be possible.

r/AskBaking on Reddit: Grinding my own flour...Vitamix vs Kitchenaid vs Mockmill...which to get?
November 10, 2022 -
Hello! I am considering milling my own flour, and am feeling overwhelmed by what to do next. I mostly bake breads and muffins, brownies, and scones, although I would like to occasionally make cookies/pies/cakes, and maybe make my own pasta one day. I own a vitamix and a kitchenaid stand mixer (mini) already.
Could I just dip my toe in grinding wheat berries in my vitamix? Or do I need to use a mill to get flour that works?
If so, I know there's a vitamix dry grain container, the kitchen aid mill attachment, the mockmill attachment for a kitchenaid, a standalone mockmill. Will the cheaper options work well enough? Or do I need to go all out? Help stop my brain from melting down.

I have a KoMo Fidibus Classic which is similar to the countertop Mockmills. I love it. I've had it for 5 years and use it weekly. I don't buy flour anymore and just mill my own. I also have the Vitamix dry grain container that I got earlier. It does a decent job on soft grains but you will have to sift out the bran for wheat or harder grains. It chops versus grinding the grain. A friend of mine got the Mockmill KitchenAid attachment. It worked well in terms of grinding the flour finely, but was really loud, slow and overheated his KA. He ended up selling it and buying a used KoMo on eBay from someone who was moving back to Germany. I've used the stand alone MockMills in a baking class. It milled the flour well, but I prefer the method of adjusting the fineness by rotating the hopper versus using a lever. I've never had an issue with the flour having a weird smell. In fact, it's quite fragrant. I now find baked goods using white flour to be flavorless and flat tasting. Oh, I just realized that I said similar things in the r/HomeMilledFlour/ sub. I'll leave this here too in case anyone else find this. Good luck. I hope you find a great mill.
