I have msi Dragon Center installed on my pc, and I went to use that to update my bios That was your first mistake. You update the BIOS manually, from within BIOS, not an app, especially not an app that has also been known to brick their(MSI's) own motherboard's since the app downloaded the wrong BIOS version or the process was corrupted. Thankfully, your motherboard has a Flash BIOS button on the back of the motherboard(or the rear I/O ports), refer to page 46 in your motherboard's manual, here, and see if that revives your system. r/buildapc on Reddit: Black Screen and CPU Debug LED on after Bios Update with Dragon Center(MSI B550i)
December 12, 2020 -

This is my first PC Build and everything was working pretty good. I saw there was a Bios update in Dragon Center and thought it was pretty simple to do after checking the User Guide. So the update downloaded and my computer rebooted but it stayed on with a black screen for 45min until I decided to hold down the power button to shut it off.

Now when I try to turn it on the EZ Debug light goes straight to CPU(switched to DRAM for a tenth of a second) and everything seems to be on. Except my monitor doesn't show a connection.

My MB is a MSI B550i Gaming Edge Wifi and my CPU is a Ryzen 5 3600.

I just don't understand why the debug is on the CPU if it was working perfectly before the failed bios update.

I also do not know what I should do to fix the solution. CMOS or Flash Bios. I also only have a 128gb usb 3 and I don't know if that will work. I also don't know what tool I need to do that CMOS thing... Please help. And thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

[RESOLVED]

Hopefully this thread can help someone in the future who may experience the same problem, after removing the CMOS Battery and waiting 5 minutes I reinstalled the battery started up again and my PC went to a setup page, I selected default values (F2) and I was able too boot into windows. Thank you everyone who took the time out of your busy days too help me with with this issue.

Hi there, i’m a novice PC builder this is/was my first build.

TLDR; Tried to update BIOS in Dragon Centre, computer restated and is now showing no display and no beeps on start up.

Specs: MB: MSI Mag x570 Tomahawk WIFI CPU: Ryzen 5 3600x GPU: ASUS Dual Series GeForce RTX 2060S PSU: OCZ 700w RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 16GB (8GBx2) OS Drive: WD Black SN750 500GB NVME Storage: WD Black SN750 1TB NVME M.2 and WD Black 2TB Performance Hard Disk Drive 7200 RPM

While browsing Dragon Centre I performed a scan for updates and noticed quite a few new ones and since I haven’t updated my BIOS since building in October I decided to go ahead and do it now, since Dragon Centre is saying i’m able to do it from there seemed convenient at the time. So I started the update and left it to do its thing eventually the computer rebooted itself and since then I have no display showing on my primary screen (tested HDMI on GPU as well as direct to mobo) a secondary monitor (tested both HDMI’s again as well as VGA) no beeps on start up, tried pulling and replacing the GPU. I think I already know the answer but has this bricked my motherboard and how should I go about problem solving. Again i’m a novice PC builder and only in hind sight Im now seeing people saying that updating your BIOS in Dragon Centre is risky. If anyone is willing to take the time out of their day to offer some sort of guidance, I would truly appreciate it.

I made a horrible mistake of using MSI's stupid dragon center to do a bios update. I am a moron I know. And when it restarted the computer just had a blackscreen nothing showing up on my monitors. I figure great i bricked it. Now in an attempt to fix it, i am using the bios flash button, after 2 minutes my CPU turns on. And sort of stays in this state, still nothing on the screen. Am I SOL here or can i potentially save the motherboard? Just trying to fix stupid RAM BSODs and opened another can of worms. Can't say i don't deserve it

Ho boy. Don't do this. There have been countless example of users bricking their system using Dragon Center or MSI Center to try and update their BIOS. As a rule of thumb NEVER update BIOS from inside Windows, unless there is literally no other choice. It rarely ends well. If you need to, ALL other applications and services should be stopped to try and prevent any issues. But again this should be a last resort.

Now for things you can try. First reset your CMOS. If you are lucky your board has a button to do this some where, if not there is likely a jumper on your motherboard you can bridge, ideally with an actual jumper, but most don't have those, so you can use a screwdriver just be careful to not short anything else. If all else fails (and I'd recommend this over the screw driver tbh), yank the round CMOS battery while your system is powered off and unplugged. Reinsert the batter after about 30 seconds, and see if that helps. If none of that works, hopefully your board has BIOS Flashback. If not, then all you can do is contact MSI support and hope they are willing to like cross ship a replacement or something (fat chance on that unfortunately).

I had the same issue. You need to take out the CMOS battery for like 30 minutes (between 10 and 15 minutes didnt work for me and shorting the CMOS-Reset-Jumper for 10-15 seconds didnt work too). Then try a restart.

Maybe you have to flash your BIOS again, but this time dont use that pos software Dragon Center (or MSI Center). Use M-Flash or use the Flash-Bios-Button, if your board supports that.
