With the huge steam sale going on, I'm not sure what to buy, but I want an open world game whereI can roam around aimlessly with friends and have fun, like GTA V: Online. I don't mind the genre. Open to any suggestions, just a good game which could give me and my friends hours of good time, preferrably without having to stress much. Thanks

I absolutely loved Firefall, that game was truly a beautiful mess and it's sad it didn't last longer. I still have fond memories of melding tornados blowing into towns and all the hell that broke loose after.
The first games that comes to mind are probably no longer 'good' examples as they're older MMOs: Rift and Secret World. Both have examples of minding your own business in an open world and spontaneous 'raid'like events appearing in the overworld requiring spontaneous cooperation to takedown, even in low levels. I have no idea what the state of these are in 2021 but I can't imagine it's very good. Perhaps it's worth a look?
ESO has some degree of this as well, but not nearly as grandiose as anything you'd see in Firefall. Still offers some emergent jolly cooperation out in the open world.
