Something very strange and horrendous happened with me at the Old Navy cash counter today. After scanning my purchases, the cashier asked if I wanted to participate in the rewards program. I asked if it was free and he said yes and explained the benefits.
While going through the questions on the screen, I suspected if it was a credit card. I asked him very clearly if this was a credit card and he said it was just a loyalty card. Too tired already, I simply went ahead with the process.
I reached home and lo behold, i got a notification from my credit monitoring and bank apps that there had been a credit check and got an e mail from Old Navy welcoming me and crap.
I know I could have done better and probably should have seen through the deceit. I and my girlfriend were too tired and were starving after 4 hours of shopping in the mall. (I just feel so stupid)
What can I do here? Application hasn't been approved yet it seems. I dont want the credit card at any cost. I have been very diligently building up my score after moving to US two years ago and I don't want the progress to be ruined because of something like this.
This happened in Santa Clara, California, US.
At the register I was offered to save 40% if I apply for an Old Navy credit card and I told the cashier it’s unlikely I’ll get approved but for the sake of the discount I will try… no surprise to me that I was denied and I’ll get a letter in 7 to 10 days but I still feel like the wording of the question would you like to apply to receive a discount?.. I did what they asked. I applied, am I still entitled for some sort of discount?
Did she tell you that regardless of your approval status, you'd get the discount? Bc that's not how she was supposed to phrase it. It's only if you get approved you get the discount
I try to make it VERY clear you only get it if you’re approved. I know other places do allow you to get the discount even if you’re not approved but Old navy does not unfortunately
