December 2, 2022 - It’s probably not a secret to those doing a lot of focused work in the space, but when it comes to generative AI, it’s quickly becoming apparent that how a user interfaces with generative models and systems is at least as important as the underlying training and inference technology. The latest, and I think best example, comes via OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which launched as a free research preview for anyone to try this week.

r/OpenAI on Reddit: Is there a difference between OpenAI and ChatGPT?? Not familiar with either but would love to learn more about it
December 9, 2024 -

I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max and there is a ChatGPT update tomorrow. Over last few months, just been trying to familiar myself with A.I. in general and mainly some practical use case scenarios I may be able to take advantage of it. With that being said, I have a few questions

-For my Apple IPhone users, I have learned there is a paid subscription service for ChatGPT. Is this necessary to take full advantage of this application? What are some of the differences in the paid vs free version? Doesn’t have to be only Apple (iPhone) related, because I am sure ChatGPT will be on other devices.

-What are some general real life scenarios, someone like me who loves tech but just doesn’t have a huge understanding of the power of ChatGPT, will be able to use the application (iPhone or other devices) to help me our? I know it’s used for images and for writing papers or articles, but is there any other not so popular advantages it offers? Either recreational or professional?

-Going off the last question, what are some ways someone can use ChatGPT for basically entertainment. Maybe that’s not the right verbiage, but basically are there any interesting rabbit hole type concepts that really harness the power of ChatGPT that can make for a good time sink? Try to think of someone who doesn’t know much about A.I. and without spending a ton of time learning the ins and outs; is there anything an average person can do to maybe make ChatGPT be a little more interesting. Just trying to think of ways to use it and see if it’s an application I can see myself using.

Anything else you guys would like to share would be amazing. Honestly, just trying to facilitate some conversation, especially for people who are like me whose knowledge of A.I. is basically what we see on TV or popular webpages. Sorry for the open ended questions and I hope this post is allowed to stay up. I wouldn’t mind meeting people who have a better understanding of it and can share your knowledge. Hope you guys have a good weekend and a Happy Holidays!!

OpenAI is the company that created and maintains ChatGPT, and chatgpt is an AI based off the GPT framework. The best thing you can do with AI imo is to help you think. But for something more practical you could try cooking. AI makes cooking a lot more easier and accessible.

For basic stuff, the free tier is fine. You would have limited access to GPT-4o and full access to GPT-4o mini. I have a subscription because I use GPT-4o to help when I'm writing code and I find it's better at coding than the free models. Honestly for real life scenarios aside from coding assistance, I give it a link to a job posting, I upload my resume to it and I ask it to write an ATS optimized cover letter tailored to my resume and the job posting. I also use it to write responses to emails where I want to respond in a certain way but I just can't find the right words to use to convey the proper tone.I also use it to come up with cologne layering combos based on what's in my collection. It's helpful for all sorts of things though. I find that if I'm curious about something, let's say dashcams, I can just ask chatgpt about dashcams and it will provide me with a list of good options. You can ask it about anything, like the best way to prepare for a camping trip or you can ask it to come up with a good workout routine for you. Some people even use it in place of an actual therapist. The best way to understand it is to give it a try. If you subscribe to chatgpt plus you should also have access to its voice mode where you can literally talk to it almost like an actual human.
