r/Bedding on Reddit: Parachute Linen Duvet
November 25, 2022 -

I’ve recently moved and have found the Parachute company’s linen duvet cover as a potential upgrade to my current (college) comforter. However, I’ve just discovered the cover and duvet insert are two different purchases…

Does anyone have Parachute bedding and can provide a recommendation? Further, can anyone recommend a reliable quality brand for duvet inserts that don’t break the bank?

Thanks!

Check out your local Costco if you have one, I think Sam's Club is the southern equivalent. I got a lovely down comforter that I put in a duvet cover for under $100. It's real, quality down too.

I haven't heard anything good about Parachute bedding (a lot of problems with shedding and the like), but regarding duvet inserts, it depends on what you want for your bedding system. If you are a cold sleeper or keep your room at icebox temperatures, then wool or down are good options for insulators (and lots of people like the 'fluffiness' of down). If you are a warm sleeper or keep your room temps on the warmer side (68F-76F) then silk inserts are pretty much the best thing you could get, bar-none. I've also heard decent things about Kapok (and how it is light and fluffy like down but doesn't overheat someone like down) as a hypoallergenic alternative to down, but they're usually really expensive and I don't know how long their fluffiness lasts (mixed results so far, but I'm hopeful!). Here's sort of a mini synopsis to better understand the most popular options for an insert: For Cold Sleepers/Cold Room Temps (65F-Below) Wool/Alpaca/Merino/Camel: A very good insulator; hypoallergenic; somewhat fluffy and can get really heavy but flattens over time; eco-friendly for the most part, but has some issues; ranging from $200 Queen size and up depending on quality of the wool/craftsmanship Down: Probably the best insulator; not hypoallergenic; very fluffy and lightweight and can easily be re-fluffed; not very eco-friendly; ranging from $100 for Queen size and up depending on quality of the down/craftsmanship For Hot Sleepers/Warmer Room Temps (65F-Above) Kapok: A decent thermoregulating/breathable material; hypoallergenic; somewhat fluffy and lightweight but some reports it flattens over time with use; eco-friendly; hard to find and ranging from $250 for Queen and up depending on the quality of the craftsmanship Alternative Down/Bamboo/Lyocell: some of them are decent thermoregulators/breathable; most are hypoallergenic; some of them can be very fluffy and lightweight and usually don't flatten since they're mostly plastic; not eco-friendly at all; easy to find and ranging from $30 for Queen and up depending on the material and quality of craftsmanship Silk: the best thermoregulator that you can buy/breathable; hypoallergenic; not very fluffy at all and very 'flat' looking and can get pretty heavy, like a weighted blanket; a pretty decent eco-friendly option, but not without issues; pretty easy to find and ranging from $150 Queen size and up depending on the type of silk and the quality of the craftsmanship Right now is your perfect time to buy something since everything is on sale and will probably never be priced this low for the rest of the year, so choosing and buying something today (and sometimes until the 28th) would be very wise, imo. What you also need to find out, as well, is what type of duvet size you need (I always recommend sizing up from what your bed size is: So if you have a Queen bed, then getting a King duvet/insert would be better and give you more room if you pull covers or share with another who does). I have a really tall bed, so I sized up my duvet/insert and it's been the best decision I've made in a long time (as well as sizing up my flat sheet, too... that helped a ton). Once you decide what size you want, you now have to figure out what duvet you want to get (and those sizes fluctuate like crazy); once you've gotten a duvet then you have to find a duvet insert that mostly fits the duvet dimensions otherwise you might have bunching or shifting issue with the insert. It's a bit complicated and takes a bit of research, but perhaps the best way to start would be to tell us what type of linen duvet you want (size/price/color) as well as what type of duvet insert would work best in your current sleeping situation or which ones appeal to you most. Let me know and I'll do my best to help :)

Parachute Bedding Review | Home - Running in Heels
June 13, 2024 - Parachute has quite a few sets of bedding combinations, everything from selling each piece separately to inserts with the duvet covers and shams, plus a sheet set! After fighting it for quite some time, I gave in and got Parachute’s linen quilt for this summer. I am not against quilts per se, it’s just that I love the weight of the comforters almost like a weighted blanket, they help me sleep.
