I went into Walmart a couple of weeks ago, and they had an entire shelf of tents priced at $19.97. I checked their outdoor section for another price, and could not find the same tent or a price with the tents name/code on it anywhere. I went up to pay for the tent, and it rung thru at $124.99. I told them it was priced on the shelf at $19.97, they said I was right, that was the only price on the shelf, but it was wrong and the tent was $124.99.
At this point I told them the price scanner accuracy code, and that it was not my fault they made a mistake. They went as far as to call me an idiot for believing they would follow a code over common sense and was asked to leave. I did call their customer service and showed them images of the shelf and tent., They did nothing to help except inform me it was a blowout sale sign that someone forgot to change. They said while they were sorry for the way I was spoken to, Walmart Canada reserves the right to deny sales as they see fit. I have submitted a complaint with the Retail Council of Canada.
Maybe it is the fact I have worked retail for 10 years now, I've dealt with the price scanner accuracy code as the cashier/supervisor on multiple occasions. It sucks selling something at a low price, but it is the company's fault and never the customers. Overall, the tent isn't my biggest complaint here, it is being actively insulted and having nothing done to rectify it.
