Let's say that I have to monitor CPU utilization and create alert lifestyle based upon some thersold values , or reading some DB to get live time metrices of an app and create alerts .

Prometheus gets and stores the metrics. Grafana prints out nice looking graphs from metrics provided by prometheus.

Promethe,us gather metrics from exporters that must be running on the monitored hosts, stores them in it's own time series database, can display graphs of those series and trigger alerts. You can see it as a monitoring solution. Grafana is a dashboard builder/display a lot of graphs for a lot of databases (including Prometheus one) and optionally send simple alerts too. It is fundamentally a visualization solution, it doesn't gather the metrics/feeds whatever db, not can generate complex alerts. But you can couple it with a lot of DBs (other time series databases, elasticsearch, MySQL and more) not just Prometheus
Can someone ELI5 prometheus vs loki vs grafana vs influx?
Prometheus stores numbers and Loki stores log files. Influxdb can store both but because of how influx is designed it isnt great at storing logs and the grafana ux for influxdb2 isn't great. So for metrics you can use Prometheus or Victoriametrics and Loki for logs. I personally use Victoriametrics and Loki. Victoriametrics can receive metrics using the tegraf plugin with the influxdbv1 output and you can setup promtail or telegraf to receive syslog on a remote server. Victoriametrics can also be used to scrape a Prometheus exporter but I like the push model and only having to learn one agent. I'm working on an ansible role that will stand up Victoriametrics Loki and grafana with data sources and dashboards setup but I need to update the docs Https://gitlab.com/shiftsystems/shift-rmm More on reddit.com

No, and you are comparing apples with oranges. Grafana is the visualization plugin for Prometheus. And works for a lot of more data sources than just Prometheus, so it makes no sense for Prometheus to have all the Grafana features. But there are more programs that let you visualize in different ways the time series database that Prometheus have. More on reddit.com
