In this part of the tutorial, I hope to show you a way to initate any Python project to ensure that you won't have to do major effort restructuring the code once you want to publish it. Let us start with the folder layout. Your project directory should be structured in the following way and we will explain why later. project_name βββ docs β βββ make.bat β βββ Makefile β βββ source β βββ conf.py β βββ index.rst βββ examples β βββ example.py βββ src β βββ package_name β βββ __init__.py βββ tests β βββ __init__.py βββ .gitignore βββ LICENSE.txt βββ MANIFEST.in βββ README.rst βββ requirements.txt βββ setup.cfg βββ setup.py βββ tox.ini

I used to recommend reStructuredText for READMEs in contrast to Markdown but PyPI no longer requires reStructuredText. You can use Markdown as noted on https://pypi.org/help/ under "How can I upload a project description in a different format?". Example shown here: https://packaging.python.org/tutorials/packaging-projects/#creating-setup-py

I have a lesson learned from multiple ... structure. Under this folder called projectname/, we put in a lightweight Python package called projectname that has all things that are refactored out of notebooks to keep them clean. It has an __init__.py underneath it so that we can import functions and variables into our notebooks and scripts: ... In projectname/projectname/config.py, we place in special paths and variables that are used across the project. An example might ...

GitHub - rpatterson/project-structure: Python project structure foundation or template
Organize source by feature [15], for example \./src/foo/(template|view|model)\..*, rather than by source type, for example \./src/(templates|views|models)/foo\..*. Add a VCS remote for this repository to a real project. When the template adds structure specific to certain types of projects, for example command-line tools, web services, UI apps, the it adds branches for each variant.

Ravioli code is more likely in ... proper structure. If you never can remember, if you have to use FurnitureTable, AssetTable or Table, or even TableNew for your task at hand, then you might be swimming in ravioli code. Python modules are one of the main abstraction layers available and probably the most natural one. Abstraction layers allow separating code into parts holding related data and functionality. For example, a layer of a project can handle ...

Iβve adapted this from Jean-Paul Calderoneβs classic structure post, and his prescriptions for the use of a bin/ directory are still important. The most important point to remember is that your executable shouldnβt have a lot of code, just an import and a call to a main function in your runner script. If you are using pure Python ...

GitHub - pyscaffold/pyscaffold: π Python project template generator with batteries included
The project template provides you with following features: All configuration can be done in setup.cfg like changing the description, URL, classifiers, installation requirements and so on as defined by setuptools. That means in most cases it is not necessary to tamper with setup.py. In order to build a source or wheel distribution, just run tox -e build (if you don't use tox, you can also install build and run python -m build).
