See my red box? Click on the blue text on your RadarScope, you want to see Velocity. 3rd one on the list. That will show you winds that are coming towards the radar location or going away. Red and green are the colors. When you see those 2 colors brightly lit up in a tornado warned box it means that something could be there. Some of the others in that dropdown list can also help you locate debris balls and such. Correlation Coefficient, Differential Reflectivity and Spectrum Width. The current one you are showing, Super-Res is your basic storm radar. The purple just means a very bad part of the storm cell. Very heavy rain, possibly larger hail. More on reddit.com

I did the free trial of GR2Analyst and it was amazing. I have no money right now but am really interested in tracking weather. Is there any good free alternatives? I am considering Radarscope but it looks like a lot of the features are locked behind a monthly payment.

In my opinion, the two biggest things you'll truly "miss" with only the base purchase (no recurring subscription) are: - dual-pane... for example, having both reflectivity and velocity on screen at the same time - Special Weather Statements There are of course other things the Tier One subscription brings (lightning, watches, custom color tables, etc) but I feel that Dual Pane and Special Weather Statements are the biggies that you'd miss out on. I personally haven't found a need for the Tier 2 subscription based on how I use it, but I do keep the Tier 1 subscription each year. I fin the $10/year cost relatively negilgible compared to what I get for it.

I am a high-school student interested in software development and weather, so when I went to find a good radar app, I was shocked that only RadarScope and RadarOmega were viable options. (Aside from running AWIPS on a desktop computer). Nothing else had a great user interface and was as put together. So, I decided to create my own free alternative to be able to see NEXRAD Level II and III products. I have been working on NWS Weather Report for quite some time, but I recently decided to have a go at adding advanced radar data. While the app has a paid version, all of the advanced radar products are available for free. Please check it out and share it if you enjoy it.

Looks great!!! Only thing I’d say is you really should look at who you’re letting advertise because I’ve seen some really sketchy ones.

Is the purple the Debris ball with a tornado? I’m new to more so professional tracking as I feel my normal weather apps are always inaccurate. Just need some advice!

It seems like you’re at a radar site too far away you need to switch to a closer one to get an accurate view! R.S. is definitely a learning curve but once you get a basic understanding of how the app and all the functions work, it is pretty easy to understand practice makes perfect!
