There’s something you need to check before getting any of the cards above. Some of these credit cards may use the issuing bank’s own FX rate which already includes a markup over the Mastercard/Visa FX rate. So technically they don’t charge a FX conversion fee, but you’re paying more through their rate. You can use this calculator to see whether the banks charge the MC/Visa rate or not. Apparently I had to do the currency exchange through CIBC instead of being able to load cash in foreign currencies directly, and banks are known to have a worse rate than a lot of other places, so in the end you’re paying more. The now defunct Chase Amazon Visa card used to be the best because they had cash back, they didn’t have a FX fee, they use Visa’s FX rate, and no annual fee. It was a sad day to see it go. Lots of DPs of people being shutdown for using cobalt for prepaid credit cards. So far seems it's only effecting those that are using the reloadable credit cards though. More on reddit.com

I would go with the EQ card since it has no FX fee and will reimburse you the ATM fee if you withdraw from a Canadian ATM. I don’t carry around my debit card anymore because of it. More on reddit.com

Consider the WealthSimple Cash Prepaid Card, it's a no FX fee card that also pays 1% on all purchases. It also allows for free ATM access (though doesn't rebate fees if the ATM itself charges one). There's really only 3 good prepaid cards for travel which are: WealthSimple Cash EQ Bank Wise MultiCurrency All other prepaid cards charge the standard 2.5% FX fee. The first 2 allows for more free ATM access & you can earn rewards but the Wise MultiCurrency card lets you load multiple currencies on the cheap. More on reddit.com
